Miranda Kerr Was Born To Eat Less Meat?

Miranda Kerr is known for being a green, eco-hero, but could it be her body type was born to make that easier?

The actress was quoted by Female First as saying she follows a diet that recommends eating according to one’s blood type. Since she’s a type A, it is supposedly better for her to eat fruits, vegetables and less meat.

“I am a blood type A and more often than not I eat specifically for my blood type. I also eat low GI, high alkaline foods, drink filtered water and eat mostly fresh produce and very little meat.”

“I believe it is important to supplement our food to ensure our bodies have the nutrition required to remain healthy. This is even more important if you do not eat certified organic foods and certified organic fresh produce.”

The diet, created by Dr. Peter D’Adamo, sounds great if you’re Kerr’s type, but does that mean the 56% and 69% of people in the United States who have type O or type B are doomed to beef and chicken?

Not exactly.

Critics of D’Adamo’s plan are quick to point out there isn’t enough sound evidence showing one blood type is better for eating some foods over others.

David W. Grotto, RD, LD, a spokesman for the American Dietetic Association, said at WebMD: “D’Adamo doesn’t say avoid vegetables and fruit, for example — but his specific recommendations based on blood type — the science is not there to support it. I’m not aware that anyone has duplicated his research.”

Grotto is type O, but he doesn’t thrive off eating squirrels off the road or 3 pound sirloins.

“I’m type O and apparently I should be feasting over roadkill. Well, that doesn’t work for me because I don’t like too much meat.”

Deirdre B. Williams, N.D. and John J. McMahon, N.D. at VegSource further challenged D’Adamo’s book on the subject. In it, D’Adamo claims type Os have extra stomach acid and are able to digest meat well. In reality, when more stomach acid is present, the lower the pH of the stomach would be, and the enzyme responsible for protein digestion, pepsin, would be less effective.

One more piece of evidence showing blood type doesn’t shape your food future. Everyone’s favorite vegetarian designer Stella McCartney is a type O. And one of the champions behind the UK’s Meat-Free Monday campaign has been thriving on the diet for years.

If you believe you suffer from such a condition, there are three tests you can ask your doctor to perform, the Lactose Intolerance Test, the Hydrogen Breath Test, and if you’re a genius infant who happens to have the ability to read gossip blogs, the Stool Acidity Test, all discussed on the Mayo Clinic website.

The Lactose Intolerance Test involves drinking a liquid that has high levels of lactose and getting blood tested two hours later. If your glucose level doesn’t rise, this means the body isn’t digesting and absorbing lactose.

The Hydrogen Breath test is not a sobriety one.

Rather it also involves drinking a drink that contains a high amount of lactose and having your breath measured for hydrogen at various intervals. Normally, very little hydrogen is detected but when lactose isn’t digested, it sits in the colon and ferments, causing the gas to be eventually exhaled.

The Stool Acidity test for children takes advantage that the undigested lactose sits in the colon, as discussed in #2. The stools are tested for lactic and other acids.

Once you’ve discovered you’re status, you can happily find dozens of non-dairy and vegan milk, and, unless you’re in Canada, vegan cheese options.

Vegetarians and meat eaters can get along and even eat together, so says Lauren Harb at the Huffington Post.

Harb reviewed several restaurants in the Los Angeles area that ranged from totally vegan to meat dominant with recessive veggie features.

Real Food Daily, a vegan food mecca, made the list to make everyone happy in mixed company.

“OK, I’ll be honest. Most meat-eaters aren’t dying to eat vegan cheese or meat substitutes when they can have the real thing. But it is with extreme confidence that I promise you, no matter what your diet will or won’t allow, you want to eat their Not-chos. More often than you probably should. And yes, you want to add the tofu taco mix. No, you won’t know the difference from the real thing.”

Besides Not-chos and tofu tacos, RFD is the place to get a glimpse of numerous LA celebs like Tobey Maguire, Elizabeth Berkley, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr and even meat loving country cutie Brad Paisley.

Miranda Kerr, model and girlfriend of Orlando Bloom, is planning to publish a diet and nutrition book later this year.

Miranda considers herself mostly vegetarian and follows a diet based on blood type.

Could there be another vegetarian diet book to add to your shelves soon?

I know what works for me,” Kerr told Grazia Australia. “Primarily I’m vegetarian, but I will eat a small amount of fish and chicken – and once in a blue moon I’ll have a steak.”

“I am conscious of not only maintaining but promoting a healthy lifestyle and I wouldn’t be able to sustain the hectic nature of my modelling commitments if I wasn’t 100 percent committed to feeding my body the food, vitamins and minerals it needs,” she added.

Miranda was defending herself after a swimsuit photo shoot for Grazia Australia made it look like she had lost a dramatic amount of weight.

“The exaggerated poses for the shoot have made me appear thinner than normal from behind, but I am the same weight and measurements I have maintained for more than three years,” she said.

Hmm…which vegan product do I like the most? Does it matter, since I’m a gorgeous model who can afford them all?

Yes, Miranda Kerr was a lucky woman recently as she got to help Victoria’s Secret launch an event in Los Angeles.

Here she’s standing next to the company’s new line of vegan, organic products, PINK.

PINK products contain natural things like soy milk, come in eco-friendly packaging and are completely animal friendly, being both vegan and not tested on animals.

We must say standing next to the product line makes her look even better. Hopefully, she went home and slathered some of that cruelty-free goodness all over her body.

This Victoria’s Secret Angel has just earned an extra pair of wings!
