Although it isn’t written in 140 characters, Biz Stone‘s recipe for seitan bourguignon has finally been posted to Martha Stewart‘s website.

Biz stopped by to demonstrate making seitan for Martha’s special vegan episode, which was a hit among meat eaters and vegetarians.

Hard core foodies may have been disappointed to learn Biz used already prepare seitan, instead of making it from scratch.

However, the use of already made seitan is only likely to attract even more people who have never cooked with the dish before and don’t want to feel overwhelmed by getting yet another component right in a dish for a lifestyle they’re just beginning. Prepackaged seitan that’s easy to find in both natural foods store and mainstream stores makes it that much easier for more people to eat vegetarian or vegan at their next meal.

This recipe makes a stew with seitan using fresh vegetables like onion, shallots and carrots added to vegetable broth. Then, shiitake mushrooms are baked until crispy and added on top.

The recipe is posted to Martha’s site, along with a video of her and Biz making it.

Biz Stone‘s segment on The Martha Stewart Show has been posted to Gawker.

“One of the things we like to do is we like to take real comfort food [and make it vegan]. And this particular food is like a stew that’s really great during a rainy day,” Biz said.

Biz revealed that when his wife Livia is cooking at home, he reads books to her while she’s at the stovetop.

“We have a bunch of classic books. We just finished Treasure Island. We have a lot of the Sherlock Holmes stories…That’s kind of like, my role in the kitchen.”

Using Westsoy brand of seitan, Biz and Martha walk through the steps of cooking seitan bourguignon. While Martha is stirring the seitan, Biz jokes, “I guess I should be reading to you.”

When Biz Stone wants pizza delivered, he doesn’t have to worry about ordering one of those weird, cheeseless ones with only sauce and vegetables.

Stone, who is scheduled to make seitan on Martha Stewart’s special vegan episode tomorrow, is lucky enough to live near Amici’s–an East Coast style pizzeria on the West Coast in California that offers vegan pizza topped with the popular Daiya vegan cheese delivered to his door.

“One of our go-to places is Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria in Northern California,” Stone said, discussing the ways he and wife Olivia like to splurge. “They actually make a really good vegan pizza, so it’s sort of a guilty pleasure to order that and have it delivered. Otherwise we mostly cook at home.”

Amici’s has several locations in major cities throughout Northern California, including two in San Francisco, Mountain View and Menlo Park.

The vegan pizza is named “Asante” and contains Daiya Vegan Cheese, Baby Spinach, Broccoli, Red Onions, Tomatoes, Fresh Basil  and without tomato sauce.

There are also six vegetarian pizzas. The “Veggie” is topped with Roasted Green Peppers, Sautéed Mushrooms, Caramelized Onions, and Black Olives. The “Greek Isle” comes with Crumbled Feta, Mozzarella, Artichoke Hearts, and Sun-Dried Tomatoes without red pizza sauce. The “Pesto” is optional with  red sauce. The “Margherita” contains Mozzarella, Tomatoes, Fresh Basil, and Olive Oil with optional tomato sauce. The “New York” is a simple Mozzarella and Tomato Sauce pizza and “The Boston” puts fried eggplant on the pie.

In addition to its vegan pizza, Amici’s also offers a gluten-free menu.

Twitter co-founder Biz Stone will help Martha make seitan bourguignon. Then, author Kathy Freston will make vegan fruit and nut bars and share her tips for making the steps to add more vegan meals into your diet.

Finally, Farm Sanctuary‘s president and co-founder Gene Baur will discuss the conditions animals raised for food in factory farms endure. Baur will give viewers a glimpse into the lives of the rescued farm animals living at Farm Sanctuary’s locations on the West and East coasts of the United States.

The vegan episode airs Wednesday, March 30 at 10 a.m. on The Hallmark Channel.

Biz Stone and his business partner and co-founder of Twitter, Evan Williams, are celebrating five years of saying it in 140 characters.

Stone was recently a guest on Conan O’Brien‘s show when the subject of some of Stone’s past Tweets came up. One of those Tweets was about Stone discovering Amtrak  offered a vegan burger. Stone Tweeted,”Wow, Amtrak serves a vegan burger! Nice.”

“I would not have that burger,” Conan said while laughing.

Well, that’s surely his choice, but we think Conan will miss out on some serious foodie fun!

Amtrak’s menu is already veggie friendly, with selections like the veggie burger and veggie pasta. But to avoid those situations where you may feel tempted to throw the tray in the train conductor’s face, it’s best to order at least 72 hours ahead of departure time.

The Chipotle Black Bean and Corn veggie burger is described as, “A spicy, full flavored veggie burger patty served on a bakery bun with lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickle, potato chips and optional cheddar cheese.”

Here’s a good image for the tastebuds.

Although the veggie burger is optional with cheese, it’s not certain whether or not this particular veggie burger is also inherently vegan. But you can DEFINITELY get a vegan option if you ask and plan ahead.

The last time someone attempted to show a connection between the U.S. and Egypt, it was Jon Stewart forcing a camel to stand outside in the snow. As you can see from the video, that attempt was a big FAIL.

The vegan co-founder of Twitter has made a connection between a historic uprising in the Middle East and one of the United State’s most active sanctuaries for abused and abandoned farm animals, Farm Sanctuary. In Biz Stone‘s opinion, both the sanctuary and the events in Egypt teach the lesson of human empathy.

“I think empathy is what it’s about,” Stone was quoted by the Herald Tribune as saying. “Technology in general, and social media especially, are helping the world become a smaller place. These days, you can look down on your mobile phone and see what’s happening halfway around the world, walk in their shoes, and feel an empathy you wouldn’t otherwise feel.”

“We’re not just citizens of a state or a country anymore; we’re citizens of the world. Farm Sanctuary helps you extend that. It deepens the idea that we are citizens of the world.”

Stone was recently in Florida to promote the organization.

Farm Sanctuary helps people understand the animal world around them through a variety of programs and regularly allows visitors to interact with the cows, pigs, chickens and other farm animals that reside on its New York and California farms.

It was a visit to the sanctuary years ago that prompted Stone to go vegan.

There are numerous campaigns Farm Sanctuary promotes regularly, including those advocating better conditions for farm animals, better food labeling and pro-vegetarian campaigns.

Business Week has featured an article online that highlights the growing number of CEOs and equally powerful folks going vegan.

“Steve Wynn, Mort Zuckerman, Russell Simmons, and Bill Clinton are now using tempeh to assert their superiority. As are Ford Executive Chairman of the Board Bill Ford (F), Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, venture capitalist Joi Ito, Whole Foods Market (WFMI) Chief Executive Officer John Mackey, and Mike Tyson. Yes, Mike Tyson, a man who once chewed on human ear, is now vegan.”

Wynn, the owner of the popular Las Vegas casinos, is such a lover of animals, he’s included the Humane Society in his will. Wynn says he’s convinced many of his employees to eat vegan (no doubt it’s easy to eat that way on the job now that all his restaurant provide several gourmet vegan options), but it’s not a requirement of the job.

As any smart CEO would tell you, employees eating healthier is a good business decision, which Wynn describes. In his own words, that is.

“I’m providing the ass for the insurance. If they’re sick, we’re picking up the tab,” Wynn says. “If I can keep them healthier, I’m acting like a smart businessman.”

Biz Stone is talking to himself in Stolichnaya Vodka‘s new ad campaign featuring the tagline, “Would You Have A Drink With You?”

Stone’s alter ego is much like Moby in a similar video where his evil twin derides his every accomplishment.

“Did it ever occur to you that Twitter is just a constant stream of meaningless babble?” Stone asks Stone.

“You’re not seeing the big picture,” Stone said. “Astronauts are tweeting from space. And the pace of business changed forever.”

Several celebrities who have starred in the Stoli campaign include Julia Stiles and Hugh Hefner.

Stolichnaya Vodka, like the Twitter co-founder, is vegan-friendly.
