Glee star Lea Michele has revealed the secret to why she is able to keep up with playing her annoyingly bubbly character Rachel Berry.

“I’m a vegan,” Lea told Ok! magazine. “It makes me feel really good and bright.”

“You need a lot of energy to play spunky Rachel Berry, so I’ve tried a lot of different things — and so far, this is working.”

The vegan diet must be working for her because Lea’s looking fabulous these days.

Makes you wonder why she didn’t get naked for that PETA ad she did awhile back.

By way of Ecorazzi, The Veg Star has learned that the long awaited column on vegetarianism by Paul McCartney has finally been published on Gwyneth Paltrow’s website, Goop.com.

Paul discusses the benefits of being vegetarian and how a plant based diet is less taxing on the environment.

And Gwyneth finally comes clean about those “mostly vegetarian” but liking turkey rumors.

“I am not a vegetarian, but when I heard about “Meat Free Monday,” I was intrigued. I had never thought about the environmental impact of raising livestock.”

Paul gives several points of discussion from the 2006 United Nations Report:

“Livestock production is the largest source of water pollutants, principally animal wastes, antibiotics, hormones, chemicals from tanneries, fertilizers and pesticides used for feed crops, and sediments from eroded pastures.”

“The meat industry is set to double its production by 2050 so even if they manage to lower emissions by 50%, as they have promised to, we will still be in the same position.”

“A third of all cereal crops, and well over 90% of soya, goes into animal feed, not food for humans. Eating less meat will free up a lot of agricultural land which can revert to growing trees and other vegetation, which, in turn, will absorb more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.”

The Oscar nominations are in, and two films on the green and animal friendly side have received the honor.

The Cove, directed by Louie Psihoyos, depicts the secret slaughter of dolphins in Japan. The meat is  later sold for  human consumption and contains high levels of mercury.

Food Inc. shoots down the practice of factory farming and examines the effects of the industrial production of food on the environment.

Food Inc. was promoted by Stonyfield Farms, a company that produces dairy products using sustainable methods, organic ingredients and small family farms.

“It’s not just that these filmmakers expose vicious, inhumane and ecologically dangerous practices, apparently sanctioned and covered up by the Japanese government and its media,” film critic Marshall Fine said. “But the filmmakers have done it while risking their freedom — even their lives — for the cause.”

Nikki Sixx, the founder, bassist and songwriter from the 80s metal band Motley Crue, has launched an entertainment show into national syndication, Sixx Sense.

According to a press release, Sixx will discuss, “music and lifestyle topics as he gives listeners a backstage look at the world and mind of a rock star.”

At 51, Sixx is kinda old. Does even qualify to comment on the life of a rock star?

At any rate, he will co-host the show with Kerri Kasem, daughter of radio personality Casey Kasem.

In an interview with USA Today, Sixx described how he and Sherri differ.

“We were talking about a band that was honored by PETA. And Kerri was excited about that because she’s a vegan. And she had to make sure I knew that I would never get that honor. She was like, “You collect dead things.” I have taxidermy everywhere and I wear leather. Also, she’s into Japanese bikes and I’m into Harley-Davidsons.”

So far Sixx has interviews lined up with George Lopez, Ozzy Osbourne and Dog The Bounty Hunter.

Any chance of getting a vegetarian on the show to introduce Sixx to coffee with soy creamer and vegan donuts?

Sixx Sense with Nikki Sense can be heard Monday through Friday, 7PM-midnight on over 30 rock and alternative radio stations.

Pamela Anderson will be doing a promotional event for her new fragrance, Malibu, in Costa Mesa, California on Saturday February 13, according to the OC Weekly.

Fans will get a chance to greet Pamela and get an autograph at the Sears at South Coast Plaza from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Malibu comes in two varieties, Day and Night.  The following are descriptions of the two fragrances:

Malibu (Blue) “for flirtatious days,” is an enticing sexy blend of juicy wild berries and zesty mandarin fruit lifted by sweet honeysuckle accents and blooming white florals. Coupled with ambered sandalwood, creamy caramel, rich vanilla bourbon and a touch of tantalizing praline, this sweet scent will complete your day’s ensemble.

Malibu Night (Pink) “for sensual nights,” combines tropical pomegranate, chocolate persimmon and illustrious glimmer with black orchid high-lites, sweet lotus and rich champacca flower with fresh vanilla violet, warm mahogany wood, patchouli and glowing amber to create a sensual scent that is sure to make nights memorable.

The fragrances are available at CVS and are said to align with Pamela’s vegetarian values and not be tested on animals.

Nothing sadder than a fallen vegan.

Heather Mills was voted off the ITV1 reality TV show Dancing on Ice.

Heather performed to Aretha Franklin’s “Chain of Fools.”

Heather spoke to GMTV about her departure from the show.

“I’m actually just full of joy that I was so lucky to be able learn to ice skate with Matt,” Heather said.

Heather had the show’s producers find her a pair of leather-free skates for the competition.

As mentioned before, The Record reported that a man named Andrew Hunt will be writing weekly letters to Sarah Palin, sharing the benefits of a vegan lifestyle and recipes.

A writer at Slashfood heard this news and unfortunately, doesn’t agree with Hunt’s vegetarian agenda and suggests Sarah use her entrepreneurial spirit to profit from a lifestyle of loving meat.

Specifically, moose meat.

In his “letter” to Palin, he writes:

“I am writing to you, because I think a chain of patriotic restaurants inspired by your persona is exactly what this country needs, featuring an underrated ingredient that you have actually hunted. Delicious, lean, gamey moose”

“Imagine: a franchise of affordable restaurants with you as their spokes-governor — Sarah’s Moose Hut! Or International House of Moose! TGIMoose?”

“That’s right. Moose burgers. Moose stew. Moose cakes. Moose dumplings. Moose loaf. Moose kabobs. Moose casserole. Moose and potatoes. Moose lo mein. Moose tacos. The mind boggles.”

While The Veg Star can’t agree with ethics of the aforementioned business plan, in the true spirit of capitalism, International House of Moose would be Palin’s right to pursue.

One would hope she would at least meet a vegan halfway and offer faux breaded moose wings (deep fried in vegetable oil separately from the real thing) on the TGIMoose menu.

Comedian and Celebrity Apprentice competitor Carol Leifer spoke with  Miami New Times when she confirmed the rumor that she really does have a copy of Michael Vick’s apology for his involvement with dogfighting.

“Yes, we have it framed in our house,” Leifer said. “I had heard that the Humane Society had put it up for auction, and I thought this could be a double whammy of what us Jews call a mitzvah. I plan on selling it again when the time is really ripe, and I’ll donate the money again to another animal rights group.”

Leifer said Vick’s handwriting is horrible, along with his spelling.

Ouch!

Leifer shares company with another famous vegan lesbian comedian, Ellen DeGeneres.

“It’s funny because I had been vegan for about six months when I went to a taping of Ellen’s show. She had heard that I was vegan and was inquiring about it. Lesbians are really known for being animal lovers. Gay women always have so many pets.”
