I just wish people would understand and realize that it’s really not that difficult, and it’s a choice that we make—I think that it is in everybody’s grasp to be able to make a decision like switching to a vegan lifestyle. One of my proudest accomplishments has been going vegan.”

–Canadian figure skating pair champion Meagan Duhamel, in an interview with VegNews about how diet affects her career as a professional athlete. Duhamel has won both Four Continents and Canadian National bronze and silver medals and is training for the 2014 Olympics, where she’ll probably fuel up on plenty of “homemade bread, pumpkin-apple butter, granola, cookies, trail mixes, and snacks like that.”

“I enjoy all aspects of cooking but like many chefs I’ve been lazy about veg. Meat and fish are tyrannical and dominate so much that anything else becomes a supporting act. The minute you put meat and fish aside you become much more creative with your veg.”

“After his heart surgery he became much more diligent about taking long walks and going to the gym and going on hikes with my mom and their dog…. Starting a couple years ago, he really made a commitment to and a concerted effort to eat healthier. I am profoundly grateful that my dad makes different choices now.
