Kellie Pickler is one of several vegetarian women who’ve been placed on Maxim‘s Hot 100 list for 2012.

Pickler finished six in the fifth season of American Idol and Maxim chose to chide the country for not voting her performance on the show as “hotter.”

“Seriously, America: You chose Taylor Hicks over Kellie on Season 5 of American Idol? We’re moving to France.”

With the completion of her third studio album, 100 Proof, Pickler will be spending some time on the road promoting it and entertaining fans. In the past, she’s had trouble finding vegetarian food on tour, but she’s confident she’ll keep up healthy eating habits, partially because of her plant-based diet.

“It’s hard on the road, because sometimes there’s nothing but fast food. But my eating is different now. I’m a vegetarian, I don’t drink soft drinks and I’m very active. I’m not a gym person, and I’d never pay somebody to train me. I know what I need to do: get off my ass! I’ve finally gotten to that point, and I can fit into my old clothes again. I love that.”

Just when we were excited about Miranda Lambert‘s animal work for charities like Paws for Cause for shelter pets, a story surfaces that reveals she puts other animals’ paws in her fridge.

In Self magazine, Lambert revealed “15 Things I’ll Never Apologize For,” which includes deer cutlets on the menu at her home she shares with husband Blake Shelton.

“We eat the meat we kill. Blake and I served it at our wedding! I love it when people are down on me for hunting. If you eat meat at all, I don’t want to hear about it!”

Lambert apparently harvested venison for her own wedding, a photo of which was uploaded to Twitter.

With the potential unhealthy contaminants involved when eating game killed in the wild, Gunpowder and Lead are better used to defend yourself against psycho ex-husbands, versus happy little animals in the forest.

Carrie Underwood was a guest on Oprah’s Next Chapter where she discussed how strict she is with her vegan diet.

Underwood’s meals at home are animal-free, but she will occasionally try a bite of something just vegetarian if she’s out with friends or family.

And it does depend on how bad she wants that cornbread.

“If I’m someplace, I’m at someone’s house and they made a salad and it’s got cheese on it, I’m not going to be weird about it and refuse to eat the food,” Underwood told Oprah.

When asked if she would eat a piece of cornbread with buttermilk in it, Underwood replied, “It depends on how bad I want that cornbread.”

If you do choose to be weird about your food, you can always email a copy of a vegan cornbread recipe to your host before you show up for the party.

Lady Gaga‘s going meaty again.

The singer showed off her latest carnivorous dress she wore during a performance of “Americano” in Tokyo on her Facebook page.

Her last beefy costume, worn to the MTV Video Music Awards, garnered criticism from vegetarian celebrities and animal rights groups like PETA, but still managed to be preserved in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Unfortunately, with all the salts and other preservatives in meat today, this dress too will probably stick around longer than her next top 10 single.

Summer means great weather, great music and now, thanks to Tickets for Charity, a great way to help out animals.

Gavin DeGraw and Colbie Caillat are touring the U.S. and if you purchase tickets through TFC, a portion of the proceeds help the Humane Society of the United States.

Caillat has worked with the Humane Society in the past, promoting issues like puppy mills through Puppy Mill Action Week and legislation designed to force breeders to provide better care for the animals.

“Puppy Mills are commercial breeding facilities where dogs often suffer under harsh conditions, never knowing even simple comforts, much less love,” Caillat said.

Find a concert date to bring your shelter puppy along and help the Humane Society at Tickets for Charity.

Carrie Underwood hasn’t convinced husband and NHL player Mike Fisher to go veg yet, but she’s managed to score a few goals at the dinner table.

“He’s all right. He’s actually getting better,” Underwood revealed during his visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “I’ll offer to make him something I’m making myself and he’ll say ‘sure’.”

Underwood is continuing to improve her cooking skills in hopes it will both impress Mike and make her the #1 vegan mom someday.

“I want to be that Mom someday that’s like, oh my Mom makes the best…fill in the blank. I would love to be that. So I’m working on it…”

We predict Underwood’s children will be bragging to their classmates that their mom makes the best…tofu, tempeh, seitan, couscous…fill in the blank.

Leona Lewis is asking officials of the UN’s 2012 Earth Summitt to put protection for farmed animals on the agenda for the event in Rio in June.

The singer is asking fans to sign a petition created by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) that will place animal welfare among priority issues such as food crisis and climate change.

“I am supporting WSPA, so please support me by going to the site below and joining thousands of others worldwide who are demanding that farm animals are on the agenda at the UN 2012 Earth Summit in Rio. By adding your name, you could help animals have a better future,” Lewis said.

“Farms with poor animal welfare aren’t just bad for animals; they have negative effects on our environment, our health and on the livelihoods of the world’s poor,” reads the petition addressed to the summit’s co-chairs H.E. Dr. John W. Ashe and H.E. Mr. Sook Kim.

“I hope you will agree with me that there is worrying evidence that the continued growth of industrialised factory farm systems is neither good for us nor the planet.”

The WSPA site has included a short video that gives examples of how better farmed animals help the environment and humanity. Free-range egg production in India employs women in poverty. Outdoor cattle use less water and energy. Land conservation is increased when animals live on terrain not suitable for crops.

Kellie Pickler took time off the stage to interact with some of her pachyderm friends.

The country music singer and American Idol alumnus is featured in tonight’s episode of GAC-TV’s Day Jobs. Vegetarian Pickler visited the Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee and helped caregivers tend to the animals.

“It’s so worth it to have the opportunity to be this close to them and really learn about their way of life and what they need to survive,” Kellie said. “It’s really, really amazing what the people here at the Elephant Sanctuary are doing. They’re so passionate about their job and that’s so important.”

The Elephant Sanctuary was founded in 1995 and according to the sanctuary’s website, it is the nation’s largest of its kind to house endangered African and Asian elephants. Twenty-four elephants have been able to live out their natural lives since The Elephant Sanctuary was created.
