John Bishop PETA Ad Has Chicks Falling For A Vegetarian (Video)

One of Britain’s popular comedians thinks eating animals is no laughing matter.

John Bishop has posed in a new ad for PETA UK that reads, “Chicks Love a Vegetarian.”

Bishop has been a vegetarian for over 25 years, a move that was motivated by both working in a fast-food restaurant and seeing a cow being slaughtered on a farm.

“The cow was hanging up looking at me as if to say ‘you did this’”.

“Not only are vegetarians less prone to diabetes, cancer, heart disease and obesity than meat-eaters are, they also evade some of the risk of impotence because the artery-clogging animal fat and cholesterol in meat can slow the flow of blood to all the body’s organs – not just the heart,” writes PETA UK on its blog.

“And each vegetarian saves 100 animals a year from immense suffering on factory farms, in abattoirs, in nets or on the decks of fishing boats.”

Bishop incorporated his vegetarian views during one of his comedy skits. He discussed how eating veg was different in the 1980s compared to now.

Jamie Kilstein is a vegan comedian who’s been a guest on SIRIUS radio, Conan and co-hosts the Internet political radio show, Citizen Radio.

Describing himself as a former “fat fast food eating piece of shit” who would have eaten “baby fingers in Mcnugget form” if it had been cooked for him, Kilstein incorporates his vegan beliefs both in his comedy routines and his political discussions.

Speaking of political discussion, Kilstein has a great response to the “God made animals for us to eat” argument.

“I’ve helped old people cross the street. You wouldn’t be like, ‘God created buses for a reason.’ Or, ‘That baby’s choking!’ ‘God created marbles for a reason.’ . . . ‘That couple’s being evicted from their home.’ ‘God created Bank of America for a reason.’”

Of course, the politics of veggies isn’t always welcomed, as Kilstein describes in one of his routines below.

“I can get away with saying pretty much anything I want,” Kilstein said, giving examples of less negative audience reactions to topics like war and gays.

“And I’m like “sometimes I like to eat a salad” and they’re like “You pussy motherf*cker. Go back to Brooklyn. And they’re so mad.”

Craig Ferguson hosted Minnesota comedian Bryan Miller who took the opportunity to make a few jokes about the vegetarian lifestyle. Miller’s wife is vegetarian. He is not. Cue the outrageous stories.

Vegetarians who live with/have close relationships with carnivores should consider Miller’s plan to open a “vegetarian compromise restaurant.”

“We’re still going to serve meat,” Miller said. “But only the parts the animals can afford to live without.”

Although he is still allowed to cook meat at home, Miller says wife insists they shop at the local co-op, paving the way for jokes about the price of goods that come with labels like fair trade.

Myq Kaplan was featured in Our Hen House’s “Art of the Animal Series” and he brought his quirky and dry sense of humor with him in exchange for “hummus and hugs.”

“What inspired me to initially become a vegetarian was I say thoughts that a lot of people have, you know, about ‘hey, we shouldn’t hurt animals,’” Myq says in the interview. “Those thoughts are normally stamped out by, “Ah, but the animals are delicious.’”

During a performance at Gotham Comedy Club in NY, Myq gushed at how wonderful it was to speak in front of a majority vegan audience, something he estimated has occurred at least twice in his lifetime and how it gave him the perfect opportunity to discuss the raw vegan assholes.

It’s no wonder the Last Comic Standing finalist’s CD Vegan Mild Meld was one of iTunes top 10 bestselling comedy CDs of 2010.

What’s almost as good as spending an evening with former Lost actor Jorge Garcia and his homemade vegetarian sloppy joes and almond milk?

Spending the evening at LA comedy club The Laugh Factory and listening to his stand-up routine where he poked fun at himself while sharing his passion for vegan food.

“Yeah, I’m still fat,” Garcia said. “Thought I’d address the elephant in the room…I became vegan at the time when vegans are going through a whole cupcake renaissance. It’s definitely kept my mind off of cheese.”

The actor first went vegetarian and has been a vegan for about six months.

Every vegan knows that 99% of the work is not about the cooking, but reading the darn labels! Garcia also found the opportunity to make humor out of this.

“Rapeseed oil! I had to Google it. It’s a plant. It’s lovely, yellow flowers, which kind of is disturbing that you would either name a pretty little flower after rape or you’d name rape after a pretty yellow flower. And how do you have a whole family going, ‘We’ve been raising rape for as long as I can remember! Why don’t you come join me around harvest time? Come out to the rapefields!’?”

No matter how confused Garcia is about rape crops, he can at least rest easy knowing he’s not raping Mother Earth by gobbling large quantities of meat produced from factory farms that pollute her home.

If you’re the frugal type, you might be interested in knowing that spending your money on “organic, vegan food” like Steve may very well be the best way save a nickel or two. The folks at Good.is–who happen to be doing a 30-day vegetarian challenge–have compared vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian and meat-eating diets in terms of what one might spend on breakfast, lunch and dinner. One day’s worth of meals for a vegan was $11.15, but a meat eater put out a whopping $14.65! Don’t know about you, but we can think of plenty of ways to use that extra $3 a day…like spending it on more delicious vegan food.
