Tobey Maguire is such a hard-core vegetarian that even his ride has to be animal-free.

The actor was given a Mercedes for his transportation needs while filming an adaptation of The Great Gatsby in Australia.

The only problem was that the luxury car included leather seats.

Maguire requested officials on the set take the car back and replace it with one containing synthetic cloths.

Maguire once said of his vegetarian lifestyle, “I don’t eat eggs, or nearly any dairy – no cheese or milk. I do eat honey and a piece of milk chocolate here and there. It’s never really been that hard for me.”

“I’ve never had any desire to eat meat. In fact, when I was a kid I would have a really difficult time eating meat at all. It had to be the perfect bite, with no fat or gristle or bone or anything like that. I don’t judge people who eat meat – that’s not for me to say – but the whole thing just sort of bums me out.”

Ryan Gosling has written a letter to the US Department of Agriculture, asking the agency to reconsider its approval of a method to kill chickens.

The method involves suffocating the bird with a foam based agent.

PETA says the process can, “take up to 15 minutes and is as traumatic and panic-inducing as killing birds by choking them, strangling them, smothering them, or burying them alive.”

Even a chicken eater doesn’t want the food on his plate to be treated so inhumanely before death.

Gosling wrote in the letter, “If dogs and cats were killed in this way, the person committing these acts would be charged with cruelty to animals.”

Gosling urges the USDA to instead utilize a method already in place in the UK and Europe which renders the bird unconscious with gas.

A new NBC series that combines classic childhood fairy tales with crime drama will feature a vegetarian character who helps put the Big Bad Wolves away.

Grimm, which will debut on October 21 at 9p.m. ET, will have Silas Weir Mitchell (My Name is Earl, Prison Break) playing a werewolf-like character who has trained himself to both go vegetarian and help detectives solve crimes.

“I’m playing one of the characters who has a battle with his demon,” Mitchell said. “I’m just an average vegetarian clockmaker who is trying not to turn into a wolf.”

The pilot episode of Grimm is a play on Little Red Riding Hood. Watch the official trailer below for a sneak peek.

What’s almost as good as spending an evening with former Lost actor Jorge Garcia and his homemade vegetarian sloppy joes and almond milk?

Spending the evening at LA comedy club The Laugh Factory and listening to his stand-up routine where he poked fun at himself while sharing his passion for vegan food.

“Yeah, I’m still fat,” Garcia said. “Thought I’d address the elephant in the room…I became vegan at the time when vegans are going through a whole cupcake renaissance. It’s definitely kept my mind off of cheese.”

The actor first went vegetarian and has been a vegan for about six months.

Every vegan knows that 99% of the work is not about the cooking, but reading the darn labels! Garcia also found the opportunity to make humor out of this.

“Rapeseed oil! I had to Google it. It’s a plant. It’s lovely, yellow flowers, which kind of is disturbing that you would either name a pretty little flower after rape or you’d name rape after a pretty yellow flower. And how do you have a whole family going, ‘We’ve been raising rape for as long as I can remember! Why don’t you come join me around harvest time? Come out to the rapefields!’?”

No matter how confused Garcia is about rape crops, he can at least rest easy knowing he’s not raping Mother Earth by gobbling large quantities of meat produced from factory farms that pollute her home.
