Giorgio Armani has announced it will end the use of fur in its fashion lines.

Armani, 81-years old, cited the changes in technology that allow for a finished product to reflect a high-end and quality look without cruelty.

Armani said: “I am pleased to announce that the Armani Group has made a firm commitment to abolish the use of animal fur in its collections. Technological progress made over the years allows us to have valid alternatives at our disposition that render the use of cruel practices unnecessary as regards animals. Pursuing the positive process undertaken long ago, my company is now taking a major step ahead, reflecting our attention to the critical issues of protecting and caring for the environment and animals.”

Beginning in fall 2016, the Armani line will be completely fur-fee. This standard will apply to all Armani companies, including Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani, AJ Armani Jeans and homeware brand Armani Casa.

Joh Vinding, chairman of the Fur Free Alliance, stated the change reflects a trend that “compassion and innovation are the future of fashion.”
