Wayne Pacelle, CEO and President of the Humane Society of the United States, was a guest on MSNBC’s weekday morning talk show, Morning Joe.

Pacelle made the major announcement that Burger King is transitioning to cage-free eggs and pork from suppliers that do not confine pigs to crates that severely restrict the movement of the animal.

“The biggest category of animals at risk are animals in the food production system,” Pacelle said, citing the changes that have taken place in agriculture over the past few decades, most of which involve limiting a farm animal’s freedom and forcing it to live in unnatural conditions.

Pacelle discussed the benefits of giving animals more room to move on farms, which include fewer use of antibiotics and reduced environmental issues, such as manure management.

“When you’re good to animals, there are often good outcomes the rest of the way,” Pacelle said.
