Take us out to the ballgame and show us a pitcher with a vegan glove!

New York fans can now see Yankees pitcher Brian Gordon handling the fastballs with what PETA says is the first player in MLB history to use a non-leather glove.

The glove is manufactured by Carpenter Trade Company and is said to be “breathable, memory retentive, and wicks away moisture—is 10 ounces lighter than a standard leather glove.” It also has the comfort approval of Gordon.

Leather is a big commodity in sports, especially the major leagues. While we don’t have any stats for the number of animals used during baseball season, in the NFL, approximately 35,000 cowhides are used every year.

Gordon’s glove is not only animal friendly, but human-friendly too. Leather isn’t green, as toxic chemicals are used in the finishing process that hurt factory workers in the leather shops and make their way into rivers and streams, putting the water supply at risk.
