America’s Next Great Restaurant has narrowed things down to 10 finalists and already eliminated one of them.

What’s positive about someone going home? It wasn’t the chef with the vegetarian restaurant idea!

Sudhir Kandula had pushed for a vegetarian Indian menu early in the competition.

Of course, he wasn’t welcomed with open arms.

Gwyneth  Paltrow shared with Food & Wine magazine her favorite restaurants across the United States. Each restaurant has a personal story or experience to go along with it and Paltrow chose an Italian restaurant in Manhattan’s upper east side that she ate at frequently as a child, Elios.

Paul McCartney has voiced his support for a campaign to end the sale of cosmetics in the European Union that have been tested on animals.

The EU has already banned cosmetic testing on animals. And the ban to sale such cosmetics was originally scheduled to take place in 2013, but some officials want the ban delayed.

McCartney and other celebrities are using the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection’s (BUAV) campaign in hopes of convincing officials to adhere to the timeline.

“Animals should not suffer in the name of beauty,” McCartney said. “Testing toiletries and cosmetics on animals is cruel and unnecessary. Join me in signing the BUAV’s petition to ensure the sale of cruel products in the EU is outlawed by 2013. Say NO to Cruel Cosmetics.”

Moby is going to vegify the pants off the cowgirls and cowboys as part of the SXSW Festival activities when he hosts his vegan barbecue at Cheer Up Charlie’s, located at 1104 E. 6th St. in Austin, Texas. The event takes place on Thursday March 17, from noon until 7 p.m.

What’s better than great vegan food? Great vegan food that benefits a non-profit animal advocacy group.

Bloomberg Businessweek has an article on how big food companies would like to dip their toes into the soy market waters after learning the USDA is now advocating Americans to eat soy.

Kraft Foods, Kellogg, and Hain Celestial Group are three big food players the article discusses that are ready to answer the question of, “Can the feds get Americans to trade in a sizzling rib-eye for a soggy block of tofu?”

Mad Men‘s Vincent Kartheiser is the kind guy you can’t help but admire for his green attitude. He spends very little time in a personal vehicle, doesn’t want to procreate and empties his vegetarian digestive system of the 3-bean, brown rice, tofu, kale and spinach in a 7-grain tortilla wrap into his neighbor’s toilet to save water.

And this guy loves fast trains.

But there’s more.

Kartheiser is happy to spread the word and let others know how they can measure their carbon footprint.

During a recent interview with Good.is, Kartheiser discussed using carbon calculators.

“I try to do a little of what I can in my life to reduce my impact. A lot of people do. Maybe they’re vegetarians. Maybe they don’t have a lawn. Maybe they don’t drive their car all the time. There’s this website where you can check your carbon footprint. [Ed note: We've always been partial to this carbon calculator from University of California, Berkeley.] You put in what your gas bill was, what kind of car and how many miles you drive, if you’re a vegetarian, and so on.”
