Olivia Wilde "Flaunt"

While promoting the new film Tron: Legacy, actress Olivia Wilde posed for a photo shoot for Flaunt Magazine.

The photographer of the shoot was curious as the why Wilde, a vegan, wasn’t all skin and bones.

Wilde’s reply was, “Umm, because I’m married to an Italian and every time I ask him to cook dinner, you can be a hundred-percent sure it’s going to be pasta. Anyway, there are a lot of fat vegetarians out there.”

Wilde doesn’t exactly belong to the pleasantly plump vegetarian club, but yes, the cleavage peeking from the orange blazer proves we don’t munch on carrots and celery all day long.

Jason Ellis

MMA fighter and proskater Jason Ellis shows off his impressive collection of tattoos for PETA2′s “Ink Not Mink,” campaign against fur.

Ellis has discussed animal rights issues with the group before. He once said of the tactics used on animals in the circus to coerce them to perform or behave, “You don’t know what’s going on in the circus. They don’t tell you, like, ‘Hey, man, just so you know, this elephant gets the s*** beaten out of him.”

The tiger definitely looks cuter on Ellis’ arm than jumping through hoops of fire.

Super Meat Boy

Edmund McMillen, one of the two men behind Super Meat Boy, has taken to the game’s official blog to discuss the feud between it and PETA. The animal rights group created a spin-off to Super Meat Boy, Super Tofu Boy, which replaces the bloody meat character with a block of tofu.

But Super Meat Boy isn’t a piece of meat, insists McMillen. Some other surprises–this super meat creator used to be a vegetarian.

“Meat Boy isn’t made of animal meat, he’s simply a boy without skin whose name is Meat Boy.”

“Now don’t get me wrong, i have NOTHING against Vegans or Vegetarians. I was Vegetarian for many years, and was an animal control officer who saved animals for a living for a long time, i empathize, understand and accept why people choose to eat, and live as they wish, and obviously i believe everyone should have the freedom to express themselves in anyway as long as it doesn’t hurt others.”

McMillen’s “beef” with PETA is what he believes is its stance on animal testing.

You and your vegan sweetie may soon be enjoying a romantic meal from 7-Eleven.

Okay, so maybe in reality you’ll save the convenience store’s menu for those times after work when you know you’re going home to nice spot in the basement with a mini-fridge and microwave because the wife has kicked you out the house–again.

At any rate, select 7-Eleven stores in New York City are offering several vegan items in a trial run to see how many granola lovers like yourself think Slurpee goes well with tofu. Actually, the items will include Pad Thai noodles, vegetable lo mein, Shanghai dumplings, artichoke spinach noodles, and Hunan dumplings. All vegan.

If the test reveals New Yorkers want more, you may even see a tofu pup in the machine in the future.

Bob Harper agrees with what many experts advocating a plant-based diet believe–most people are eating way to much protein!

This he repeated to the Edmonton Sun, recommending people get about half their body weight in protein grams and named his favorite sources of protein.

So if you eat veg like Bob, how much protein are you actually getting per serving?

The following is a rundown of the amount of protein in each of Bob’s favorite vegan sources.

Beans–The Idaho Bean Commission has the best way of stating the benefits of beans:

“Each half-cup serving of dry beans provides six to seven grams of protein, meets at least 10% of the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein, yet costs about 20 cents per serving. A single half-cup serving of cooked dry beans counts as one, one-ounce serving of lean meat in the USDA Food Pyramid Meat and Beans group, and as a full serving of vegetables in the Vegetables group.”

Ah, yes. Beans. The other white meat.

Prashad, an Indian based vegetarian restaurant in the UK, has had to increase its staff since becoming a finalist on Gordon Ramsay‘s television show, “Ramsay’s Best Restaurant.”

The show, on Britain’s Channel 4, pits restaurants against each other in meal competition, narrowing the champions down to semi-finalist and then finalists. Prashad finished as the runner-up in a broadcast last September.

“Appearing on Ramsay’s Best Restaurant has enabled us to create these opportunities and we are very grateful for that,” said restaurant owner Bobby Patel, who’s had to hire three new waiters, three new kitchen staff and is currently recruiting more.

Prashad, located at 86 Horton Grange Road, Bradford, West Yorkshire, has been featuring vegetarian deli and other menu items since 1986. Having both dine-in and take-out and delivery menus, Prashad features vegan, vegetarian, wheat-free and onion and garlic free dishes.
