Bill Clinton

Here are a few of the top vegetarian stories featuring the famous and those who rose to fame because of their stance on food, animals and the environment.

10. The Apprentice is vegetarian. Brandy Kuentzel ran an eco-friendly cupcake truck before she was hired as Trump’s leading business lady. She revealed to us during an interview that she’d love to host a show with her best friend about all things sustainable. That show can’t come soon enough as we need some anti Paula Deen sausage segments on daytime.

9. A vegan baker wins “Cupcake Wars.” Chloe Coscarelli showed the world vegan is tasty. Very tasty. She won the war on the Food Network with her recipes for Ginger Nutmeg Spice with Date Caramel Drizzle, Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake, Crème-filled Chocolate Orange with Candied Orange Peel, and Raspberry Tiramisu.

8. Bob Harper invites “The Biggest Loser” contestants in home for vegan meal. Yum. Everybody was a winner on that episode, including Harper’s fans, who could download the recipes from his website. Harper showed America one of the best ways to lose weight healthily without sacrificing good grub.

7. Forbes publisher praises veganism. A money magazine guru insists the male vegan is not the image of the wimp some still cling to and discusses how vegan meals helped him get in shape. Now that’s rich.

6. Vegetarian athletes bring home Olympic medals. Hannah Teter is a snowboarder who fills up on quinoa. Bode Miller’s also an organic farmer. Are these two both single? They could create some fantastic, veggie athlete mini-mes.

5. The Cove wins Best Documentary at Academy Awards. This movie enlightened both U.S. and Japan viewers, who, after several cancellations and angry protests, finally got to see what goes on behind the annual hunt that leaves dolphins bloody dead and puts mercury tainted meat on the tables of Japanese consumers.

4. Paul McCartney writes an environmental column for Gwyneth Paltrow’s site, Goop.com. Yes, she still makes turkey burgers. But she’s veg-friendly and has included several vegetarian features on her site, including a special guest post by Sir Paul McCartney on reducing meat intake and the environment.

3. Ellen DeGeneres benefits animals–through postal stamps and comic books. A collector could choose between stamps and comics–or both. DeGeneres unveiled a set of postal stamps featuring adopted animals just weeks after Bluewater Comics announced her book in a series of celebrity featured comics that illustrates the vegan talk show host’s life and benefited the Humane Society of the United States. Cool, cool, cool.

2. Obama signs anti-crush video and Truth in Fur Labeling Act. No more sickos getting off from women crushing and killing animals. No more wondering if that “fur trim” is real or fake.

1. Bill Clinton goes vegan. Bill Clinton goes vegan. And in case you didn’t hear, Bill Clinton is vegan.

Have a veggie and eco-friendly New Year’s and see you in 2011!
