Need some organic coffee to wash down your “She’s A Jar” Wilco Sky Blue Sandwich Company sandwich?

The Chicago based band Wilco now has an organic coffee named after them in addition to some deli sandwiches, available from their hometown roaster, Intelligentsia.

Organic Ethiopia Sidama Homecho Waeno has a description more passionate that country music lyrics:

“The aromatics of coffee blossom and violet make way for an incredibly graceful and elegant cup. The body has a light and silky quality, like fresh whipped cream, that beautifully compliments the ever-present note of citron, juniper berry and vanilla. As it cools, the cup blossoms into notes of confectioner’s sugar, rosehips, and soft raisin, resonating on a pristine finish with a touch of milk chocolate.”

Available in two varieties, The Wilco Selects and The Wilco Doesn’t Select (non-caffeinated), the coffee can be pre-ordered until November 28th 11:59 EST. It will be roasted on the 1st of December and shipped on the 3rd.

Organic coffee is the best way to enjoy joe, as some countries where the beans are harvested still use many of the chemicals that the United States and Europe have banned. In addition, workers in the fields are routinely exposed to danger as they might not have the knowledge to protect themselves by wearing proper equipment or using appropriate safety procedures. The earth’s soil and wildlife are not exempt from these chemical effects either.

For example, Triadimefon (brand name Bayleton), a copper-based fungicide, is a concern in places like Kenya and Costa Rica due to the accumulation of copper in the soils. It’s also toxic to birds and although little is known about its human health effects, it’s a suspected reproductive disruptor from long term exposure and has been found to cause hyperactivity in rats.

More on other coffee chemicals, like Endosulfan and Chlorpyrifos, can be found at Coffee Habitat.
