"Meat is for Pussies" John Joseph

Meat Is For Pussies by punk rocker John Joseph has already gained the attention of several notables in the vegetarian community. Serving as no-nonsense advice for getting healthy and removing the junk from your body, Joseph’s book emphasizes that the only wimpy men out there are the ones still grabbing a double-double for dinner. Here’s what others have to say:

Rory Freedman, co-author of Skinny Bitch:
“Meat is for Pussies will completely transform your mind, body, and life. It’ll also score you major ass with hot vegan chicks.”

Moby:
“I’m really glad that John Joseph is finally showing that vegans are some of the strongest, healthiest, and toughest people on the planet. I mean, everyone wants to be thin and healthy and live long lives, but people still eat meat? That’s insane.”

Cyndi Lauper Debates Hotness Of Real Versus Fake Leather

The dress code for the amfAR Inspiration Gala last week at the New York Public Library was black tie/black leather.

New York magazine asked Cyndi Lauper if she followed the code of real or fake leather, to which the 80s pop icon replied, “Oh, fake leather and real leather. You’re always looking to see which one is less hot. Like, temperature hot. I eat meat; I’m not a vegetarian. Do I think animals are treated badly? Yes, and it’s awful. But I do eat it, and I wear real leather.”

Whether it’s 90 degrees or 9, real leather is as old as Lauper’s first MTV video, but thankfully, you don’t have to be stuck in the 80s with so many leather alternatives, as an extensive database listing retail sources for many accessories, including fake leather shoes, guitar straps, computer cases, biking gloves and even sports balls exists.

In a sad tale of a couple you never thought you’d see split, Al Gore and wife Tipper have called it off after 40 years of marriage.

As handsome as Al is, he’ll surely have no problem getting dates in the future if he chooses to, but PETA has taken the opportunity to remind him that all the sexy Democratic ladies forgo meat.

“You are already aware of the environmental damage caused by animal agriculture, and you recently stated that you are reducing your meat consumption. This is a small but important step. Now that you’re single again and presumably considering dating, you may also be looking for a way to slim down. May we recommend kicking the meat and milk habit entirely and going vegan, which is not only one of the best ways to fight climate change but is also one of the best ways to shed unwanted pounds?”

“Big Brother” Welcomes Vegetarian Medical Student Into Home

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, June 9th, 2010 in Film & TV, Food & Drink, Reality TV.

Reality TV can be tough on a veggie, but one Big Brother contestant is hoping to beat her odds of being forced to consume either mushrooms or sardines everyday to survive, as she’s secured a place in the home for the UK television show’s final cycle.

Yvette is a medical student who likes to be called “Sunshine” and who’s taking a year off to do more studying–in the area of medical journalism.

Although it may be joking, the Daily Mail said her self-described diet was one of “crisps and bread.”

Here’s hoping the med student will give herself better orders and eat a more rounded diet than starch, at least when she finishes her Big Brother stint. Who knows? Maybe the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine could use another veggie minded doc on their team as they educate the public on the benefits of a plant based diet in preventing common medical problems like diabetes and heart failure.

Guster’s Adam Gardner is the face of the Green Music Group’s latest challenge to eat local, and while he’s one of the leading forces behind this campaign, he has his wife to thank for greening another area of his diet.

“It was really my wife’s environmentalism that rubbed off on me!” Gardner told Good. “Once we started living together, suddenly I was eating vegetarian, composting, walking everywhere, running the laundry machine in off-peak hours. It was the dichotomy between how I was living at home and what life on the road was like with my band (gas–guzzling tour bus, trash all over the place at the end of a show, awful fast food, etc.) that sparked the idea for Reverb in the first place.”

Sharkwater, a documentary about the practice of finning, recently premiered in Hong Kong. The film follows the journeys of director Rob Stewart, as he fights poachers and reaches out to others in the activist community like Captain Paul Watson of Sea Shepherd Conservation. The DVD release of the film is also available in the U.S.

During finning, a shark’s fins are cut off while it is still alive, and the shark is thrown back into the ocean to die. Hawaii has recently become the first state in the U.S. to ban this “delicacy” which is often made in the form of soup.
