Panel & Screening Of "Burning Down The House" At The 2009 TFF

Musician Jesse Malin may have a plan B when he’s tired of hitting the road, moving from one performance venue to another. During a recent interview, he mentioned he’s had so much experience looking for vegetarian food around the world, he should write a book about it.

“I eat some cheese, so I’m not a vegan. I can eat pizza and stuff, but I try to eat healthy and stay strong and moving around. I know where the good vegetarian restaurants are in weird places like Finland and Brooklyn. Maybe someday, I’ll write a book or do a little TV show about where to eat vegetarian all over the world.”

Christiane Northrup, M.D.

When most conventional experts talk about preventing osteoporosis, going vegan is usually the last suggestion. But Dr. Christiane Northrup suggests at the Huffington Post that cutting animal sources of dairy at least once a week may help prevent brittle bones.

“Another good idea is to eat vegan–no meat or dairy–one day a week, which is very easy given the wide availability of beans, tofu and other protein these days,” writes Northrup.

Northrup says osteoporosis can be prevented by a low acid diet, and a diet high in animal protein makes the blood more acidic.

Stepup Women's Network 7th Annual Inspiration Awards 2010

“I was able to go out and interview farmers and learn so much, and I brought home a lot of the ideas. It changed things in my own home. We did a lot of talking about organic and why to buy local and how to go to a farmers’ market. There’s so much cancer in the US now and there’s got to be a reason. Let’s give ourselves a fighting chance by eating organic and eating fresh vegetables. That’s heading in the right direction.”

Jennie Garth, on her campaign with Hidden Valley Ranch that’s designed to teach parents to convince their children to eat more vegetables. As a mother, Garth is probably also interested in the recent study between inorganic produce and ADHD in children, yet another reason to eat and buy organic!

The Big Bluff Online Triva Game Launch Hosted By Perez Hilton

Pamela Anderson recently Tweeted about the International Bird Rescue’s efforts in the recent Gulf Coast oil spill from the exploded Deepwater Horizon Rig.

“Please support International Bird Rescue’s ongoing rescue work by donating, becoming a member or adopting a bird.”

During the Big Bluff online Trivia game launch the actress told Poptarts, “It’s terrible, it’s awful. It feels like it is the end of the world to me. I’m working with international bird rescue, they’re expecting (it to get a lot worse) which is unbelievable. It’s the worst thing that could happen, and we won’t know what the effects are until later.”

If you’ve ever wondered how wonderful people like the IBRRC work to rescue birds during oil disasters, you’re not alone. Such questions like “How long does it take to wash a bird?” and “What is the survival rate for birds that are collected for rehabilitation?” may be the first that come to mind.

“One of the truly unique and exciting things about SoleRebels is that we are green by heritage, and not because some marketing folks told us to be. We maximize both recycled inputs and craft our materials in the traditional manner — the way they have always been made in Ethiopia – by hand,” said Bethlehem Tilahun Alemu, Co-Founder and Managing Director of SoleRebels, Ethiopia’s first fair trade footwear company, which incorporates hand spun cotton in the fabrics and recycled tires for the soles.

Alec Baldwin–Conklin Dairy Farm Proves Animal Activists Needed

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010 in Actors, Animal Issues.

The premiere of Date Night

Alec Baldwin contributed to the Huffington Post his ideas on politics, specifically, his opinion of what New York city needs in a governor. Baldwin thinks the governor should have many priorities, including reducing air pollution and controlling taxes.

On his final note, Baldwin touched on another area of politics that has nothing to do with New York, but with Ohio and the recent undercover investigation that discovered cows being severely abused by employees.

“On another, certainly more important note, did you see the video posted here regarding regarding the Conklin Farm animal abuse story in Ohio? Let me assure you, someone risked their health and maybe their life to record that video. When you see this, you will never again doubt the necessity for and courage of the animal rights movement.”

Thanks to these activists, one employee has already been charged with several counts of cruelty and hopefully this serves as a wakeup call that mistreatment of farm animals is never politics as usual.
