University Link Magazine‘s April 2010 issue is full of celebrations.

This month marks the publication’s 1st anniversary and they were lucky enough to snag a cover interview with Conan O’Brien, lover of the frozen peas.

Even better, the inside of the magazine contains an ad for peta2 featuring Sean Kingston and his dog Stella with the tagline,”Chill With Your Dogs, Never Chain Them.”

Described as an “edgy, fun socially conscious campus magazine written exclusively for college students by college students,” University Link Magazine has over 25,000 subscribers in 58 universities in Southern California.

With so many values formed during the college years, including going vegetarian and vegan, campus life magazines like ULM are a perfect outlet for spreading the message about animal rights.

Students who wish to combine their passion with a potential career may even opt to take advantage of several animal rights programs being developed at colleges, like the Dorothy Jo Barker Professorship for Animal Rights program at Drury University or the Animal Law program at University of Virginia, both of which received endowments from vegetarian, activist and former “Price Is Right,” host Bob Barker.

Keanu Reeves was caught chatting with an attractive brunette while waiting for a take out order, according to Metro.

“Bearded Keanu Reeves tries very hard not to check out this fellow vegan’s long slim legs as he waits for a veggie takeaway at Real Foods Daily in Hollywood.”

Keanu and other gentleman might want to continue similar dining habits if they expect to get anywhere other than the “to go” line with any brunette, blond or redhead.

Local and sustainable food champion Alice Waters has gathered 30 different chefs to contribute to her latest book, In The Green Kitchen: Techniques To Learn By Heart.

You’ll recognize some of the vegetarian contributors, such as Vegan Soul Kitchen author Bryant Terry, which may explain why Waters, although not vegetarian, has compiled a collection of recipes and techniques helpful to the mixed eating household or individual.

As Treehugger states in their Weekday Vegetarian Feature, “This is also a terrific book if you are eating less meat. There are recipes for meat and fish here, but there are many more recipes featuring beautiful produce, beans, eggs, breads and pastas.”

The theme for In The Green Kitchen is simplicity, both in recipes and technique, so there’ll be no need to stock items for a 30 ingredient dish.

Besides Terry, other contributing authors include Anna Lappé.

Gabby Reece was invited to help with The Teaching Garden by her friend and wife of Tobey Maguire, Jennifer Meyer.

The Teaching Garden teaches students to grow their own produce while emphasizing math and science skills.

The goal is to get 1,000 Teaching Garden programs in schools, but parents can start instructing at home, something Reece is already doing.

“My kids get to live in Hawaii and California,” Reece told Celebrity Baby Scoop.

“They play out in the dirt all the time. One of their favorite things to do each morning when we are in Hawaii is to pick fruit from the trees: lemons, avocados and papayas. My 2 year old likes lettuce and my 6 year old, well it’s a constant negotiation. Broccoli seems to be the winner so far.”

Of course, it’s great when the students can teach mom and dad a thing or two about planting, cultivating and harvesting in the home.

“Another important message is that the learning goes from the kids back to the parents. The children can teach their parents what they have learned about nutrition and fitness and hopefully have an impact.”

"Spain... On The Road Again" Television Series Launch

“The world’s current consumption levels will have us raising 120 billion animals a year by 2050. This number would require using more land for agriculture than exists. And even if we could pilfer the land or [devise] technology to achieve this, it’s unlikely the atmosphere, land, and water could handle it.”

—-author Mark Bittman, explaining in the April 2010 issue of Vegetarian Times why eating meat and other animal products is not sustainable.

Pamela Anderson‘s milkshake will bring all the boys to the yard, or at least to Millions of Milkshakes on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, as she’ll be making a vegan milkshake for the company on Friday April 9 at 3 PM.

Pamela’s vanilla-coconut-pineapple blend will be appropriately titled the “Pamela Anderson.”

Pamela told Millions of Milkshakes:

“I am working very hard and having the time of my life on Dancing with the Stars – I have made some great new friends and tried to learn some cool new steps – but I did want to take a few minutes to prove that one can create a truly delicious treat without having to rely on any animal products in the process. It is going to be a Vegan Vanilla Coconut Pineapple shake! I’ve always liked to shake things up so I’m thrilled to create the first vegan item on the menu – and at the same time I hope to get to meet some fans and to thank everyone for their support and their votes.”

Pamela joins the list of other celebrities who have made signature shakes at Millions of Milkshakes, including Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan, The Kardashians, Reggie Bush, Gwen Stefani and Leonardo DiCaprio.
