Killer Whale Kills Trainer Before Show At SeaWorld

After trainer Dawn Brancheau was killed while swimming with killer whale Tillikum, SeaWorld officials still have no plans to euthanize the animal, which has been linked to two other deaths since 1991.

SeaWorld have banned trainers from swimming with Tillikum, but he is still used in shows where trainers give him commands outside of the tank.

“Euthanasia is different in a veterinary setting, but we have never euthanized an animal for being aggressive,” SeaWorld spokeswoman Leigh Andrus said.

“The plan is to review our protocols and continue to care for Tillikum with the same high level of care. Trainers will interact with the animal to provide care, but this was never an animal which trainers swam with.”

A statement made by Brancheau’s family said she, “would not want anything done to that whale.”

Animal rights activists that oppose captivity of these animals are calling for a release of Tillikum into a coastal sanctuary, a more controlled environment that the wild.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Lunches in Style

The ghosts Jennifer Love Hewitt is talking to must be giving her some advice on how to grab a delicious, meat-free lunch.

The actress was spotted at Kitchen 24 eating vegetarian chili with a friend.

Sweet deal that Jennifer decided to make a healthier, plant based decision that day.

She has complained in the past about being “grossed out” by eating chicken because when her teeth touched the bone, it reminded her it was…well, an animal.

“It’s just gross. It’s really weird – I can eat chicken if I take if off the bone but I can’t eat a chicken leg and have my teeth touch the bone. It freaks me out. It’s just the chicken skin. You go, ‘Oh gosh, I’m eating a chicken’, and it’s really disturbing.”

Here’s to more bean chili and less chicken, Jennifer.

Another Twilight star has offered to pose in a PETA ad.

Kellan Lutz stars in this PSA urging his Twihard fans and everyone else to adopt a cat or dog instead of buying one at a pet store.

Lutz personally experienced the joy of bringing a shelter animal into his life when he adopted his dog, Nola.

“She wanted a home, and I think she felt that I was the right owner for her. And from that day on, I just loved her.”

The Twilight cast is doing a great job publicly promoting animal welfare issues.

Would love to see the vegetarian Cullens get together and do a “We’d Rather Eat Humans Than Wear Fur,” ad.

Twiggy Disappointed By Fur At London Fashion Show

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, February 24th, 2010 in Fashion, Fur.

Celebrities Attend Marks And Spencer Shop Opening

Twiggy isn’t happy about the use of fur at this year’s London Fashion Week, and cites a new investigation by Animal Defenders International as a reason to boycott both fur and the designers who use it.

“I hope this ADI report helps the fashion industry realise that these poor animals are kept in such terrible and inhumane conditions,” said Twiggy, who’s real name is Lesley Hornby. “Is it really worth this cruelty just for fashion’s sake? I don’t think so.”

The new report details the conditions the animals are kept in at factory farms in Finland, a supplier to the UK.

Twiggy called using 20 foxes or 80 mink to make a single coat “intolerably cruel.”

“I am very sad that some designers are still using real fur when the fake alternatives are so effective and so easily obtainable,” she said.

The Daily Mail says fashion experts are reporting that Peter Pilotto, Caroline Charles, Matthew Williamson and Todd Lynn are all still using fur.
