Stella McCartney - Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010

Will Gwyneth Paltrow‘s website on health, food and travel, Goop.com, finally get the veggie turnover it needs?

Rumor has it that Paul McCartney has written a column for the actress about his Meat-Free Monday campaign.

Just hope it doesn’t appear before Gwyneth’s recipes for turkey burgers.

“My family and I launched Meat Free Monday in the UK, an idea which has been gaining support from people like Tom Parker-Bowles who, after a lifetime of denigrating vegetarians, recently wrote in his Daily Mail column, “I wince at the memory of my boorish antics” and who pronounced himself “intrigued” by MFM: “There’s no doubting the plain common sense of the message…Meat Free Monday is something to really savour”. Another supporter is Al Gore who stated that initiatives like Meat Free Monday “represent a responsible and welcome component of a comprehensive strategy for reducing global warming pollution and simultaneously improving human health.”

“It’s amazingly easy to take one day in your week, Monday or any other day, and not eat meat. When you think about it, there are so many great alternatives, for instance, in Italian cooking, so many of the dishes are vegetarian already and Thai and Chinese cuisine are the same. All it means is that you have to think a bit about what you’ll eat that day but, in actual fact, far from being a chore, it’s a fun challenge.”

Johnny Weir Fur Costume Make Him Foe Of Friends Of The Animals

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 1st, 2010 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Fur.

US Figure Skating Championships - Day Three

Figure skater Johnny Weir was under attack by animal rights group Friends of The Animals for wearing an outfit that contained fox fur during a routine.

The group contacted his costume designer, Stephanie Handler, who added a touch of fox fur on the shoulder of one of his costumes.

“She did what I asked her to,” Weir said. “It wasn’t her choice to make me a costume with fur. At least directly come to me and yell at me. Don’t attack my peeps.”

Weir insists it’s not that he doesn’t care about animals killed for fur. He just thinks there are bigger issues worry about.

“I totally get the dirtiness of the fur industry and how terrible it is to animals. But it’s not something that’s the No. 1 priority in my life,” Weir said in another statement. “There are humans dying everyday. There are thousands if not millions of homeless people in New York City. Look at what just happened in Haiti.”

Weir also pointed out that most figure skaters wear shoes made from leather.

“Every skater is wearing skates made out of cow,” Weir said. “Maybe I’m wearing a cute little fox while everyone else is wearing cow, but we’re all still wearing animals.”

Animal advocate groups were probably hoping for a little more remorse than what Weir showed.

Maybe he and other figure skaters should request some custom made leather-free skates like Heather Mills did on Dancing On Ice.

And stop wearing fur and skate like a real woman like Tai Babilonia does.

Steve Jobs–Person Of The Week–World News With Diane Sawyer

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 1st, 2010 in Business, Food & Drink, Tech.

Apple Announces Launch Of New Tablet Computer

Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs has been chosen as Person of The Week in ABC World News with Diane Sawyer.

“Most people know this much about Steve Jobs: In a California garage back in 1976, Steve Jobs built the brains of the Apple computer.”

“But you may not know as much about the private side of Jobs — he was adopted by working-class parents, dropped out of college, followed a guru, and became a Buddhist and a vegetarian. And he still worships Bob Dylan.”

Jobs’ veggie status has fluctuated from vegan to vegetarian to pescatarian to vegetarian again.

Disney’s Pixar Studios severed their ties with McDonald’s around the time Jobs took over as CEO there and he was once quoted saying, “there is value” (in fast-food tie-ins) “but there are also some concerns, as our society becomes more conscious of some of the implications of fast food.”

Let’s all go out and buy the VegOut iphone application, a tool to locate vegetarian restaurants, and celebrate the great combination of technology and healthy food.

Heather Mills Vegan Businesses Skating On Thin Ice

ABBAWORLD Exhibition - World Premiere Arrivals

Heather Mills‘ is a vegan entrepreneur who’s business accomplishments include acquiring Redwood Whole Foods company and opening a vegan cafe, V Bites in the UK.

But could her high hopes of being a successful veggie business guru be smashed by financial issues?

The Daily Mail reports recent low customer numbers at the V Bites Cafe and says profits at Redwood are at best modest, based on her possible plans for expansion.

“At present, although Redwood has a £3million turnover, its profits are pretty modest – in the last accounts they stood at £309,000. Not really a yearly sum that can keep Heather at the rate she is spending.”

Heather insists on giving back to communities, as her Hunts Point Alliance Charity continues to serve impoverished families in the Bronx in the U.S.

‘I have created a free cafe for the people to eat whenever they want,” Mills said.

“The million dollars are in the bank for them. I have given my life to charities.”

VV Brown Puts Hummus And Veggies In Her Shopping Cart

VV Brown DJ at Maya Club

VV Brown, a former steak loving girl who’s thought about giving up eggs, is now a fish eating vegetarian who shared what she likes to buy at the grocery store in the regular column at The Guardian, What’s In Your Basket?

Speaking of fish, VV’s had a bad experience with seafood while on a date.

“He insisted we try oysters. I copied him with the lemon juice and the little fork, and down it went. It felt like swallowing snot – £2-a-pop snot. Never again”

Sounds traumatic enough for VV to chuck the whole pescatarian thing and go full veg!

VV’s basket contains hummus, which Dr. Briffa at The Guardian says is good for maintaining steady blood sugar levels.

“The chickpeas here will give a good sustained release of sugar into the bloodstream, and make a light yet quite nutritious pre-gig meal when combined with crudités (rather than crackers).”
