Catherine Zeta Jones Tops PETA Worst Dressed Celebrity List

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, February 14th, 2010 in Actresses, Fur.

Broadway Opening Of "A Little Night Music" - After Party

Catherine Zeta Jones has been named Worst Dressed Celebrity of 2010 by animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Catherine won the dishonor for her collections of fur and other animal hide attire.

In a statement to Access Hollywood, PETA said, ““With her creepy cow-skin pants, ugly fox coat, and icky alligator bag, Catherine Zeta-Jones looks like she’s working her way through Noah’s ark with a knife. Maybe she’s trying to get into character for an upcoming role as a serial killer — or a taxidermist.”

Do you agree with PETA’s top pick?

Or should it have been Jennifer Lopez, who PETA nicknamed “Jenny from the Butcher block.”

Katy Perry Sister Punishes Pepperoni Eating “Kissed A Girl” Star

Katy Perry arrives at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles

Katy Perry has a fish eating vegetarian sister, who’ll waste no time giving her the smackdown  if she catches her eating other meat.

“My sister makes me watch what I eat. She’s a pescatarian, a vegetarian who eats fish, and she’s lost so much weight from being that. She’ll scream at me if some of the crew on my tour get hot pizza for a snack and I want some. Sometimes I can grab a slice, but if my sister sees me, I get a verbal lashing! I eat secretly in the corner – my one pepperoni slice.”

Hopefully, this will keep Katy, the aspiring vegetarian who can’t give up chicken, in line.

Otherwise, little sis might have to break out the leather-free belt for a good whipping!

Dr. Mehmet Oz Vegetable Secret

The International Consumer Electronics Show Highlights Latest Gadgets

Dr. Mehmet Oz loves his veggies!

In a 25 Things You Don’t Know About Me article in US Magazine, Dr. Oz reveals his favorite vegetable is okra.

He also divulged one of his favorite songs is by John Mayer.

Definitely TMI.

Besides okra, when Dr. Oz goes grocery shopping, he probably picks up other healthy items he recommended to Palm Beach Post, like ginger, yogurt with rich anti-oxidant blueberries, and colorful vegetables, which, according to Oz, the deeper and darker the color, the better.

Are these the items Rocco the meat eating cowboy ate during Dr. Oz’s mandated vegan diet?

“The Michael Vick Project” Premiers On BET (Video)

Philadelphia Eagles v Atlanta Falcons

Michael Vick‘s documentary of his fall from grace due to dog fighting activities, The Michael Vick Project, premiered this month on BET.

Animal activist or not, the line separating those that believe he’s truly remorseful or just expressed regret as a publicity stunt is pretty deep, and it’s doubtful these clips will do anything to change their opinions.

One interesting note: Michael Vick played football at Virginia Tech, the same state as PETA territory.

One could guess Vick didn’t get the same “Be Cruelty-Free” pamphlets in his dorm mailbox as some other college students did.

Watch the clip below for highlights of the show.

Taylor Swift Possum Feeding Draws Criticism

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, February 12th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Female Singers.

The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards - Backstage

If Kanye West were around Taylor Swift when she was recently in Australia, he would have grabbed the mic, pushed her out the way and yelled, “Taylor, you’re a really great singer and all, but this spot’s reserved for someone who knows how to treat wildlife.”

Swift made a post on her Twitter about “wild possum feeding,” which drew criticism from a Department of Sustainability and Environment spokesman.

“We know people who feed wild animals often have the best intentions and that it is attractive to tourists who want to interact with Australian wildlife,” he said, according to the Herald Sun.

“However, DSE advises people not to feed wild animals…it can disrupt their natural behaviour and it can cause some animals to lose their natural fear of people, making them vulnerable to attack.”

Of course, one hopes Taylor’s Twitter post meant she really did have the best intentions of feeding the possum–and not feeding on them.

Move over Michelle Obama!

The First Lady of the White House isn’t the only woman to show off her home grown greens.

Jennifer Taylor, the actress who is Charlie Sheen‘s love interest on Two and a Half Men, has revealed to EcoStiletto she tries to be greener by tending to an organic garden, which makes it so much easier to eat better at home.

“It takes a conscious effort because it’s so much easier to cook crap that’s nowhere near green. It takes a lot of effort. I’m a big planner and list maker. I live out of my little agenda. I prepare for dinners a couple of days in advance because I know that I can’t just grab something off of the shelf as I’m going home.”

“I think it’s important to eat clean and simply and just do something. Gardening, recycling, carrying reusable water bottles—every little thing helps. If everybody did one little thing it would really help.”

Need some advice for growing your own?

Jennifer gives the following tips:

  1. Wear gloves. I always forget.
  2. Use your coffee grinds and pickle juice as fertilizer. Gardenias love pickle juice!
  3. Soapy water in a spray bottle is a great natural pesticide for your fruits and vegetables.
  4. Don’t be afraid to prune a lot. The plant will grow back bigger and stronger.
  5. Get the kids involved. We let Jake pick his own seed packets, and he’s responsible for watering his plants. He recently planted a sunflower and was amazed at how big it grew!

Ellen DeGeneres Vegan Chili And Nachos Recipe (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, February 12th, 2010 in Chefs, Food & Drink, Recipes, TV Hosts, Videos.

Ellen DeGeneres‘ right hand vegan food man, Roberto Martin, demonstrated how to make vegan chili and nachos on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The recipe, which can be found here, uses lean Mexican flavored soy crumbles and vegan cheese for sprinkling, plus homemade nacho cheese.

The vegan chili sounds delish, but something sounds weird about the homemade nacho cheese, which is mainly made up of tofu and vegan mayonnaise…what the heck did chef Martin do with the nutritional yeast, an ingredient that was seemingly missing, but otherwise normally found in vegan cheese?

Maybe it was nutritional yeast taco seasoning Martin poured in?

Watch and solve the mystery yourself.

“Vamps” Alicia Silverstone Trades Bok Choy For Blood

Time Stands Still Broadway Opening Night - After Party

Another vegan is set to star in a vampire movie.

According to the New York Post, Alicia Silverstone will play one of two female vampires that rule New York City in the film titled Vamps.

All is going well with their bloodsucking activities until one falls in love, a move that could break up the duo, jeopardizing their immortality.

The Yoko Ono of the vampire world is not known yet, but Krysten Ritter has been cast as Silverstone’s bloodsucking partner in crime.

Big question of the day.

Will Silverstone successfully hide her thirst for flesh by continuing to eat vegan at Angelica Kitchen when her friend isn’t looking?
