Moby Asks Mark Bittman Vegan Question

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, January 18th, 2010 in Food & Drink, Videos.

Moby has questions, Mark Bittman has answers.

When Moby asked the author of Food Matters what he thought about veganism, Bittman answered:

“I think veganism is the most principled position one can take when it comes to eating; there is no need to eat animal products at all, and – aside from processed food – they are the most damaging foods produced, both from a personal and a global perspective.”

“Having said that, I think veganism is a very tough sell. And I would rather see millions, tens of millions of people significantly reduce their consumption of animal products than see tens of thousands eliminate them.”

“As an aside, let’s also remember that one can be a vegan and still eat junk. So my advice remains – eat plants above all else, eat unprocessed or minimally processed plants whenever possible, and eat these foods at the expense of everything else, particularly animal products and junk.”

And if you can’t go veg all the way, you can still use Bittman’s “vegan until six,” approach.

PETA To Usher Raymond–Stop Buying Fur

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, January 18th, 2010 in Fur, Male Singers.

2009 Clinton Global Initiative - Clinton Global Citizen Awards

Say Yeah! but not to real fur.

Usher Raymond claims his prized fur coats were stolen from his SUV last month while he and a friend were shopping in Atlanta, Georgia, according to SF Gate.

Why anyone would want to steal anything so ugly is still in question, but People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals had a representative write to Usher, asking him not to bother replacing them.

After all, Usher stole them from someone else.

“When it comes to these coats, you’re not the first victim. The animals who were beaten, electrocuted, or drowned for those coats – the original owners – are the real victims. Please pledge to be fur-free.”

Not to mention the publicity opportunity. Lots of people would love to see Usher naked in an anti-fur ad.

“You would be in great company! Other compassionate folks who refuse to wear real fur include Eva Mendes, Charlize Theron, Michelle Obama… and Nia Long, just to name a few. We’d be thrilled to add your name to the list.”

Anna Paquin Golden Globe Awards Stella McCartney Dress

HBO's Post Golden Globe Awards Party - Arrivals

So everybody knows Avatar and Mad Men took home a trophy at the Golden Globe awards, but who won in the category of best dressed star?

The Veg Star gives Anna Paquin the award for sporting the most ethical fashion that night.

Suze Yalof-Schwartz, executive fashion editor at large for Glamour magazine, shared her top picks for the best and worst dressed on “The Early Show,” and reported Anna’s dress, a “Stella McCartney gold beaded gown with a plunging v-shaped neckline,” as one of her top picks.

Of course, not everyone got a thumbs up from Glamour’s editor.

Maybe if Patricia Arquette had worn a dress by vegetarian Stella, Yalof-Schwartz would not have described her bad fashion sense as, “captured by a fisherman’s net, like she was dragged in by the sea.”

The Cribs Add Johnny Marr Over Vegetarian Barbecue

Isle Of Wight Festival 2008 - Day 2

The story of boy meets band is always exciting to hear, and according to the Boston Herald, ex Smith’s musician Johnny Marr met with the other members of The Cribs over a vegetarian barbecue in Portland, Oregon.

“At first it was a little weird,” Gary Jarman, bassist and singer of The Cribs said. “I couldn’t figure out who this guy was. Why was another Englishman there? Then the penny dropped. It was Johnny Marr! He said how much of a fan of the band he was. That would have been enough for me because he was such an influence.”

Hopefully Jarman hadn’t drank a lot of soda at the barbecue, causing him to belch when Johnny extended his hand.

Johnny has been officially playing with brothers Gary, Ryan and Ross since 2008

Christina Applegate knows where to get the good pizza in Chicago.

Or does she?

In a recent Tweet, Applegate seemed tired of veggies and wholesome wheat crust.

“My favorite is in Chicago at Due’s or Gino’s. And NY pizza anywhere there. I don’t want whole wheat, soy, veggie, blah!”

If Applegate is still a vegetarian, that only leaves cheese as a topping!

Who can resist the Gino’s Vegetarian with asparagus, green peppers, mushrooms, onions, red peppers, yellow squash and zucchini?

Is Chi-Town the place where Christina cheats?

Or does she prefer Gino’s four cheese with a garlic butter base?

Heather Mills “Dancing On Ice” Vegan Chocolate Cake Rewards

Heather Mills Launches V-Bites Restaurant

Hard work calls for celebration.

The Mirror reported the contestants on Dancing on Ice were given chocolate skate shaped cakes for their efforts, but not every competitor was delighted.

“Only vegan Heather Mills moaned about them,” said a source.

Heather probably moaned from disappointment rather the discontent, as she knows there are plenty of good vegan cakes in the world to reward yourself for a good day on the ice.

Like the homemade vegan cakes (some of which are gluten-free) in her own restaurant, V Bites.

Heather probably keeps a few slices in her locker, next to that extra pair of blade covers.
