Vanilla Ice Is Vegetarian–Rob Van Winkle Vegetarian

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, November 24th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Male Singers.

Vanilla Ice Performs at Studio 54

In the world of strange, surprising and humorous news, we’re happy to inform you that Vanilla Ice is now a vegetarian.

Vanilla, who’s real name is Rob Van Winkle, sat down at Mom’s Diner in Florida with Miaminewtimes.com to allow the reporter to catch up on his life since Ice Ice Baby.

Although the public may think Van Winkle has lived a pretty uneventful life since his 90s breakout, some pretty exciting moments have taken place like being stalked by Madonna and going vegetarian.

After ordering orange juice, coffee, eggs with extra hot sauce, and hash browns from Mom’s Diner, Van Winkle reminded the waitress “No Meat.”

As for being stalked by Madonna, Van Winkle said, “She’s flying me up to Indiana to the set of her movie [A League of Their Own]. She’s taking my shirt off, putting me in her book. [He’s featured in her coffee-table picture book, Sex.] This is Madonna. I was just some kid. It really fucks with your head.”

Good thing Rob found a great wife named Laura.

Cause everybody knows Madonna is a middle aged fur wearing witch anyway.

Obamas Indian Prime Minister Singh Dinner Almost Vegetarian

Obamas Host Indian Prime Minister Singh At The White House

Barack Obama and Michelle were set to host the very first state dinner banquet for visiting Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

According to the UK Times Online, Singh is an abstemious vegetarian and the menu looks to be accommodating him quite nicely.

Although we were hoping for a total veg (damn those green curry prawns), Prime Minister Singh and the rest of the guest will have plenty of plant based items to choose from.

Lead vocalist for Linkin Park and Dead By Sunrise Chester Bennington has bared his decorated pecs in an anti fur ad for PETA, Ink Not Mink.

We’d love to know the stories behind all of Chester’s tattoos and he would like fans to know the story behind fur farms and the fur industry.

“Electrocuting animals, skinning them while they’re alive—these are acts of inhumanity. Because it’s out of sight, it’s usually out of mind for most people, and we need to show our respect for … all creatures of this world.”

Watch the video below for more of Chester’s thoughts on animals.

Scot Jones, executive head chef of Chrissie Hynde‘s restaurant, The Vegiterranean, said the word “vegan” never appeared in his culinary classes.

Just goes to show you don’t learn everything you need in school, because now Jones teaches Thanksgiving cooking classes for vegans.

“I love Thanksgiving,” Jones said. “It’s the harvest month. You have such wonderful harvest. Squash, different nuts are coming into season, things of that nature — things that are great, like fresh cranberry.”

“If you concentrate on a side dish, and pack it full of flavor, you don’t miss the animal protein,” Jones said.

Jones taught his students to make dishes such as vegetable pot pie with tofu, raw honey cheesecake bars, and wild green salad with a tofu ricotta cheese.

This Thanksgiving, Jones plans to make a sweet potato, leek, soy mozzarella and thyme au gratin.

Special Screening Of Columbia Pictures' "Julie & Julia" - Arrivals

As part of the Eat Well Thanksgiving series, the New York Times has featured vegetarian recipes from Slow Food and locavore Queen Alice Waters.

The Times has included a few recipes from Waters’ cookbook, The Art of Simple Food.

“Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday,” Waters said. “I always spend it with friends, and vegetarian or not, everyone feels comfortable at the table. I always think less is more and prefer simple side dishes.”

Alice isn’t kidding about simplicity.

The Roasted Butternut Squash, for example, only has 3 ingredients.

Woody Harrelson “The Messenger” Brings Ben Foster Vegan Food

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, November 24th, 2009 in Actors, Food & Drink.

Premiere Of "The Messenger" - Arrivals

Woody Harrelson has a reputation for making people walk the vegan walk while filming movies.

And just as Woody got some cast members of Zombieland to eat veg on the set, he also convinced his co-star Ben Foster to give up meat and dairy on the set of The Messenger.

Foster told WENN:

“He walks the walk… He did drag me, begrudgingly, to several vegan restaurants, and I did enjoy them very much. I felt like I had more energy and wasn’t as foggy after eating, let’s say, a really killer steak.”

We assume he was appreciative of this cultural eating expansion, given the fact he gave Woody a big kiss in this photo.

“But he’s not evangelical about it. He lives by his routine… If someone’s interested, he has an encyclopedic knowledge on the subject and, if we talked about foods, he’ll share a point of view, but he’s not looking for converts.”

Unfortunately, Foster didn’t quite get The Messenger Woody was trying to give him and isn’t ready to give up meat yet.

“I like a healthy dose of blood in my diet,” Foster added.

Eww. How about a healthy dose of e. coli as well?

Eva Mendes Anti Fur Ad For PETA (Video)

CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute 2009

Eva Mendes recently teamed up with PETA to launch a new anti fur campaign in Los Angeles.

Eva once bared her own fur in an ad for the animal rights organization and said she’d be interested in doing a threesome anti-fur ad with Morrissey and Jennifer Aniston.

We’re still waiting for that one to come out.

In the meantime, take a look at Eva’s new PSA against fur.

“I didn’t know how animals were killed for fur,” Eva says. “And I even wore fur once myself. But when I learned how cruel the fur industry is and that there were no laws protecting these animals, I swore that I’d never wear it again.”

Max Records “Where The Wild Things Are” Veg School Lunch Protest

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, November 23rd, 2009 in Actors, Food & Drink.

"Where The Wild Things Are" New York Premiere

Max Records, the 12 year old actor who plays the ruler of his fantasy forest world in Where The Wild Things Are is a proud vegetarian.

He’s so good at playing this role, he even led a protest to get more vegetarian food options on his school lunch menu.

BTW, he was only eight years old when this protest happened.

Makes you feel lazy for not learning how to explain the difference between Silken and Chinese tofu before you were 21.

Could Max be the next person to lobby for changes to the Child Nutrition Act this year?
