Oprah Winfrey Gets Faux Real With Stylist On Show

2009 AFI Film Festival Premiere of Precious

On a recent segment of Oprah Winfrey‘s show, a fashion stylist made over several women and compared the before and after look.

When the stylist commented that the fur vest on the woman for her “after” look was fake, Oprah replied, “I was a PETA Woman of the Year so I hope that’s faux!”

Oprah won such an award for using her fame to bring attention to puppy mills and factory farms.

Hats off to O for letting her viewers know fur’s not stylish by any means.

Oprah’s just keeping it faux real, you know?

Heather Mills V Bites Learning Cafe For Hunts Point Alliance (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 in Food & Drink, Videos.

Heather Mills recently opened a V Bites Learning Cafe to children helped by the Hunts Point Alliance for Children.

The video shows the ribbon cutting ceremony as well as a deliciously wicked panorama of vegan food porn.

Here’s what Heather had to say:

“I had a dream about seven years ago to try and come up with a solution to get children to get off the fast food and save more animals, make them more healthy and ultimately save the planet. Unless we start reducing the consumption of meat and dairy there is no future for the children. It’s the biggest contributor to global warming. Hasn’t been acknowledged yet, they’ve acknowledged it as the second biggest contributer, but the consumption of meat and dairy is the biggest contributor to global warming. It will come out in a few years when we get brave enough to say it.”

There are no words to describe how incredible this woman is.

Windsor Castle Hosts Vegan Banquet For Religious Leaders

The President Of India Makes A State Visit To The UK

Windsor Castle was set to host its first ever vegan banquet today as part of a conference for religious leaders on environmental issues.

Britain’s Prince Philip and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon were both scheduled to be present at the lunchtime meal.

Officials chose a vegan meal to accommodate the different religious dietary requirements of the many faiths that were represented, such as Hindu, Islam and Judaism.

The menu included roasted English pear salad and stuffed portabello mushrooms.

Ironically, the vegan menu is also the perfect way to dine at a conference meant to highlight environment problems as meat and dairy industries cause tons of destruction to the planet.

According to some scientists, producing approximately 2 pounds of beef is equal to more CO2 emissions than going on a three hour drive while leaving all the lights on at home.

Jonathan Safran Foer "Eating Animals" Interview

Jonathan Safran Foer "Eating Animals" Interview

Best selling author Jonathan Safran Foer has a new book out, Eating Animals.

Foer had been an on again/off again vegetarian for years, but never really took the time to learn about the rational reasons for doing so. When his wife became pregnant, he decided it was time to educate himself so he could teach his child why going vegetarian is the best diet for humans, animals, and the planet.

In a recent interview with Vegnews, Jonathan elaborates on why people still find no fault in eating meat, especially factory farmed meat.

“Peoples’ responses to food, the reason they take it so emotionally and so many smart, informed people continue to eat this stuff—it’s not because they’re ignorant, it’s not because they’re evil. It’s because there’s a large component of our decision-making that isn’t reasonable. The challenge is to persuade people, or show people, even those parts that aren’t reasonable, things like cravings, are actually better satisfied by not eating them.”

“I think the better way to talk about it is like a series of these choices. Like how can one try to make the best choice as often as possible? The “best” meaning the choice that is in line with their values. Despite the array of values that Americans have, if everyone ate his values, nobody would eat factory farmed meat. And I think, frankly, very few people would eat any kind of meat. Nobody’s values lead them there. It’s only forgetfulness.”

Alicia Silverstone The Kind Diet Book Launch Party

Vegetarian Times magazine had the chance to do a Q & A with Alicia Silverstone for the holiday November/December 2009 issue.

As expected, Alicia had much to say about her new book, The Kind Diet, including the resources she used to provide data on the benefits of a plant based diet.

Alicia cited several well known vegetarian authors for The Kind Diet references.

“I can’t remember if it was Dr. Neal Barnard who blew my mind first or if it was John Robbins. I learned so much from Dr. Barnard’s books Food For Life and Foods That Fight Pain. John Robbins himself gave me a copy of The Food Revolution, which was his next book after Diet For a New America. I love how he lays it all out: “Here’s what they tell us and here’s the truth.” My newest hero is Dr. T. Colin Campbell, who wrote The China Study.”

You can read the entire interview with Alicia in the latest issue of Vegetarian Times on the stands now.

Abbie Cornish Sexiest Vegetarian Creates Press For Animals

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 in Actresses, Animal Issues.

Vanity Fair & Apparition Present the Premiere of "Bright Star" - Arrivals

Abbie Cornish recently spoke with LATimesmagazine.com where she revealed she hopes her title of Australia’s Sexiest Vegetarian will help her spread the news about animal rights.

Q: You were named by PETA as one of Australia’s sexiest vegetarians, and clearly you love animals. Does promoting “sexy vegetarianism” do anything to bring attention to animal rights?

A: Anytime anyone asks me that, I cross my fingers and think, I hope so. It creates press, and people who might not usually read about animal rights might take a look. It’s crazy, but I guess that’s the world we live in.

Abbie has already mentioned she’s always wanted to work with animals.

Could looking hot be the key to making change in the world?

Jeremy Piven Soy Milk Man Breasts

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 in Actors, Food & Drink.

23rd Annual Nautica Malibu Triathalon

Actor Jeremy Piven is in the news alleging that soy milk might make him grow double D’s.

“I was the guy that dabbled in soya milk, but now I’ve found out soya milk has enough estrogen for me to grow breasts, I had to put the soya milk down.”

“It was a very confusing time.”

It might help to add that Piven isn’t exactly known for moderation, given the fact as a self described “fish eating vegetarian,” he ate so much seafood it gave him mercury poisoining.

There has been controversy surrounding the risk of soy products to males.

But often the problems are discovered in those that tend to consume large amounts of the protein.

In fact, in one documented case of gynecomastia (medical term for big man boobs) found the subject in question drank as much as 3 quarts of soy milk a day.

That’s 12 cups a day.

How on earth did he ever find time to look for a good bra?

Bottom line is, you can overdo a good thing.

And men, if you’re that afraid of developing your own vegan chichis, drink some rice or almond milk instead.
