Mark Bittman Gives Advice For The Flexitarian

Spain... On The Road Again Television Series Launch

Hey you flexitarians out there!

Congratulations for the making the choice to improve your health, save animals, and lessen the environmental impact of the livestock industry on planet Earth.

New York Times columnist and food writer Mark Bittman, who’s been advocating a vegan until dinner type approach, has given the UK Times online some tips for those who want to cut the meat from their diet.

“My ‘vegan before 6pm’ approach is just one way of doing it. Indeed, the opposite schedule — eating your heaviest meal of the day for lunch or breakfast — may make more sense to you,” Bittman said. “You can opt out of two servings of meat a week. You can start the day with oatmeal instead of bacon and eggs. My guess is that 70% of my calories now come from non-animal sources. A shift of 50% would be significant for anyone.”

“The basic line is this: no matter how you do it, you [and the planet] will benefit if you eat a higher proportion of plants and a lower proportion of everything else.”

Visit the Times online to read an excerpt from Mark’s book, Food Matters, where Mark recommends taking a B vitamin supplement and gives sample meal plans.

Get him To The Greek Film Set

He must be the face people don’t want to forget because for the second year in a row vegetarian actor Russell Brand has been chosen to host the MTV Music Awards on September 13, 2009 at 9PM EST.

Last year, Russell gained laughs from his many host antics, including poking fun at the Jonas brothers, and he promises to maintain his outrageous reputation.

“This year will be a controversy-free festival of love and discrete orgasms,” Brand said, according to mtv.com.

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor is known for his personal bad boy behavior as well as his professional humor.

He was forced to resign from the British Broadcasting Channel after making a series of on air prank phone calls to the home of actor Andrew Sachs and has claimed he slept with as many as 80 women a month.

Michelle Obama Organic Garden Not So Organic After All

First Lady Michelle Obama Holds Food And Nutrition Event In WH Garden

When First Lady Michelle Obama broke ground for her organic garden on the South Lawn of the White House, everyone with an interest in natural, sustainable food choices cheered.

But if it seems too good to be true, it probably is and recent news has revealed the garden of organic Eden is tainted with non-organic sludge.

According to the Daily Finance, the National Park Service tested the soil in the vegetable patch and found “highly elevated levels of lead” due to sewage used as fertilizer.

And just who is to blame for the contaminated fertilizer?

Democrats would like to blame a Republican conspiracy, but the perpetrators were none other than Bill and Hillary Clinton!

When the Clintons inhabited 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, their gardening team used sewage sludge for fertilizer.

And since the sewage sludge has seeped into the ground of Michelle’s garden, it cannot truly be certified with organic status.

But local sewage is still better than imported.
