Sarah Silverman Makes Vegetarian Proclamation?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, June 20th, 2009 in Actresses, Comedians, Videos.

When we heard Sarah Silverman ordered spaghetti without the meatballs, we didn’t think much else of it.

The comedian isn’t listed on any other vegetarian websites and she’s never been an activist, so we figured she just liked her spaghetti sans cow.

Then, we got a tip from reader Anon, saying Sarah was indeed a vegetarian and had even made a video discussing how to cook vegetarian meatballs.

Here’s a clip Anon found with Sarah on The Larry Sanders Show. The caption reads, “All the guests except Sarah were served a six course wild game tasting menu, including Elk, Quayle, and Pheasant.”

One of the guests says they didn’t know Sarah was a vegetarian, to which Sarah replies, “I’m just not a carnivore.”

There’s always the chance Sarah is one of those fish eating vegetarians or has some other technicality that doesn’t make her one. And she didn’t specifically say, “I’m a vegetarian.”

The scene starts around minute 6:49.

What do you think? Is Sarah officially in the club?

Ingrid Newkirk Once Loved Fur, Ate Way Through Animal Kingdom

Petas Fashion Week Bash At Stella McCartney

Ingrid Newkirk’s story proves even the most carnivorous human can change.

The president and co-founder of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has recently revealed she didn’t always care for animals-unless they were on her back or plate.

In her new book, The PETA Practical Guide to Animal Rights, Newkirk writes, “There was nothing I loved more than my fur jacket. In my 20s, I was eating my way through the animal kingdom, and what I didn’t eat I wore.”

Wow. PETA queen was the queen of pork and mink?

Who would’ve thought?

As part of the launch to promote vegetarianism in South America, the granddaughter of the late Argentine revolutionary idol Ernesto “Che” Guevara, Lydia Guevara, will star in a PETA ad in October.

Lydia is a vegetarian who will be photographed with her grandfather’s trademark beret lined with carrots instead of bullets.

The slogan for the ad will be, “Join the Vegetarian Revolution.”

“PETA’s fight for animals was one of the reasons why I went vegetarian,” Lydia told the Spanish news agency Efe.

“Moreover, this lifestyle has become a true revolution that is attracting more people and is an alternative that is healthier for the planet and for humankind.”

Speaking of attractive, how about the arms on Lydia? So sleek and toned, she gives the diet a good name and Michelle Obama’s “arms of steel” a run for their money.

Let’s Get Baked Guys Love Smoking Tofu, Rolling Fat Burritos

Let's Get Baked on Myspace

Mat Dunlap and Dave Ewenson have a cooking show called Let’s Get Baked, where they make vegetarian and vegan dishes with the help of musicians.

The show’s title, along with the fact they’re cooking stereotypically hippie food, might lead some to believe they’re putting more than raw coconut in the pies. But that’s not the case, according to Dunlap. It’s a rated G, straight-edge kind of show.

“It comes up often. We generally we keep the show squeaky clean,” Dunlap said.

“We play on the fact we’re two hoser guys in the kitchen…and who knows what the bands did before they show up to our house. If they have the munchies, we’ll feed them. The only thing we smoke is tofu and the only thing we roll are big fat burritos.”

Holly Madison No Model PETA Citizen

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, June 19th, 2009 in Fur, Models.

Holly Madison may be the The Girl Next Door, but she’s no model PETA spokesperson.

And PETA’s okay with that.

When the animal rights group approached her to do an anti-fur ad, she told them she wasn’t even thinking of giving up eating meat.

“I’m not a hardcore PETA person,” she said. “When they approached me to do the ad, I made it clear to them that I’m not a vegetarian, and I’ve got leather seats in my car. I said I would support that ad campaign, but I wasn’t their model citizen, and they were fine with that.”

Hey, at least she didn’t turn around and do a burger ad afterwards.

One could stir a nice little debate up on whether we should praise celebrities who take seemingly opposite stances on animal issues. What do you think? Is it okay for celebrities to partake in certain animal rights campaigns and not others. If steak eating Ted Nugent decided he wanted to go naked, would you want it (for the animals, not for pleasure, that is)?

Vegan shoe designer Elizabeth Olsen has her own slideshow going on at New York Magazine.

The pics feature several of Elizabeth’s designs like the Balance in Black and Red; Ultra Suede on the left and Brazil in Citron; Ultra Suede on the right.

Elizabeth’s been a vegetarian for 19 years and a vegan for the past 2 years.

“I wanted to be the example of stylishness being synonymous with being aware of where your item came from, what it’s made of, and its impact on the earth, animals, and people,” she said, of her decision to launch her collection.

And just cause they’re vegan, doesn’t mean they have to be plain or ugly.

“Why should something, because it is vegan or earth-friendly, always be in neutral colors, or a loose relaxed fit?”

Whale Wars Crew Gets In Stinkbomb Showdown

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, June 19th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Reality TV, Videos.

A new episode of Whale Wars is on Animal Planet tonight at 9PM EST, and we’ve got some footage of tonight’s episode featuring the greatest prank an adult can do. Best part: it’s all in the name of saving whales.

The Sea Shepherd crew does a lot of tactics to prevent Japanese whalers from killing whales, including throwing stinkbombs on their boat to create a rather…unpleasant experience.

Watch the clip, “Stinkbomb Showdown,” for a trip down memory lane of high school toilet papering the Principal’s home. Wait…you never did that. You were the good kid and would never do something so…wasteful and not environmentally friendly.

Moby Asks Moby About Self-Righteous Vegan Crap

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, June 19th, 2009 in Humor, Male Musicians, Male Singers, Videos.

Moby recently sat down and interviewed himself.

Yes, you read right. In a hilarious interview, cool video technique combines with Moby’s strange sense of humor, allowing the singer and musician to take on two different personas, one that mocks and ridicules him while asking questions.

“So while we’re here, you got any of that self-righteous vegan crap you want to talk about?” asked Moby’s alter ego, who sports a backwards cap.

“Well, it’s not self-righteous,” Moby answers. “At least, I hope it’s not self-righteous. I’ve been a vegan now for 22 years.”

“Boooring,” sighs alter ego Moby.

“If other people choose to eat meat or dairy products, that’s their choice. I don’t really want to judge them. I hope I’m not being too self-righteous.”

Alter ego Moby says he really wishes Eminem had kicked Moby’s ass at the MTV awards and asks how it feels to be the least attractive musician in the business.

Man, alter egos can be brutal!
