Kellie Pickler Sparks Veggie Hate Among Country Folk

She hasn’t held her title for even a month and already controversy is happening.

No, Kellie Pickler hasn’t been found in revealing photographs of her chomping on hamburgers after winning PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian Contest. But there are some that wish she would.

Amanda Nolz at Beef magazine recently blogged on the Beef Daily blog (Seriously, we’re not kidding. We know you’ll want to bookmark that in your browser as well as subscribe to the Beef Daily e-newsletter.) that Kellie was an example of a country music star who had turned away from country values.

Just like evil Carrie Underwood who donated funds from her American Idol elimination song to the Humane Society, Kellie is ruining everything country. Well, shame on her!

“Well, it’s no secret that I’m not a fan of Carrie Underwood, a vocal vegetarian who actively teams up with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), and you’ve heard me rant and rave about the “Oprah Effect,” where anything Oprah says, the world listens to as fact. It’s unfortunate that others like Kellie Pickler are now following suit. Time and time again, these celebrities stand up and against America’s food producers, heightening an already troubling outlook consumers have on farmers and ranchers.”

“Even though we don’t have fame, fortune and our faces on the cover of magazines, farmers and ranchers have the capability to feed 144 people each year. We have the determination and drive to produce a safe and wholesome product to feed the world. Agriculturalists are truly people to look up to, and today, I challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and tell your story. It’s time we let our voices be heard. Who’s with me?”

Uh, not us. But anyway…

It must be tough for someone from some parts of the U.S. South, farming background or living in the heart of “cattle country” to go against the grain and be veg. Kudos to them.

Are you a cattle rancher kid who went wild and became veg, much to the disappointment of your friends and family?

WTF I can’t believe there’s a beef magazine! Yeah country ‘values’ is all about supporting animal cruelty. Kelly is just so evil for having compassion. Good god.

  2. Mack Says:

Beef magazine? More like one nut case with a blog.

They even hate the Humane Society there. How can anyone hate the Humane Society? That’s just sick.

I think their country values are the same as Ed Gein’s — the serial killer who inspired the characters of Buffalo Bill in “Silence of the Lambs” and Norman Bates of “Psycho.”

  3. Brent Says:

There’s also a cow-calf daily blog on there. LMAO! There’s more than one nut case…scary.

  5. Olivia Says:

I just watched that YouTube video Kat refers to above. It’s disgusting — shows violent rodeo cruelty. How could Kellie knowingly be involved in that kind of event, I’d like to know? If she does realize what rodeo involves and doesn’t care, then she’s no veggie, that’s for sure. Come on Kellie, do right by the animals consistently, ok?

  6. ‘Just One Nut Case With A Blog’ | Beef Daily Says:

[…] surprised to learn that one entry is about me and this little old blog. In their blog spot, “Kellie Pickler Sparks Veggie Hate Among Country Folk,” I’m referred in the comments section as “just one nut case with a blog.” […]

  7. Common Sense Says:

Just out of curiosity, have any of you actually been to a rodeo or to a farm before?

  8. Nicole Says:

You can tell you are very uneducated, the Humane Society and the Humane Society of the United States (which Carrie Underwood supports) are 2 completely different organizations. Educate yourselves before you open your mouth.

  9. Suzie Says:

What Kelli and Carrie don’t realize is that the makeup they wear is made from beef by-products. It is one thing to choose to be a vegetarian because you want to “save the animals”, but then why are they still using animal by-products. That is just one thing. Better do some more research of what your every day products are made from.

  10. Angela Mellville Says:

I am a dairy farmer and beef cattle owner and I work hard to raise my animals in a humane way but realize they are still animals. I enjoy a good steak and do not consider it abuse to slaughter an animal. If humans were designed to be vegetarians than we would have teeth like a horse or a cow, but we don’t. Our systems were built for digesting meat and animal fat. There are a few people who do not respect livestock and are cruel and those few have ruined it for the rest of us. My animals receive medical care when they need it which is more than I can say for myself when I broke my nose. I had to wait 4 days to see a doctor but my veternarian will come out that same day to take care of my cattle. My holstein calves are not ripped from the cow as PETA likes to suggest. If I allowed them to be raised by their mom than they would die from over consumption of milk. Everything I do is done in the best interest of my cattle.

These comments truly astound me. I, for one, am an advocate of animal agriculture and the daughter of a farmer. And you all should be thankful for what we do for you. Without us, you would be hungry and naked, but probably just as stubborn. It saddens me to see the influence media has over reality…

  12. a Says:

I would to challenge you to reed the beef daily news and you will find out that much of the content of the letter is focused on improving the health and wellbeing of the animals involved. Always remember the farmer is the reason we have access to safe quality food whether our choice is vegetarian or not.

  13. Brooke Says:

As a cattle and sheep farmer, I subscribe to the BEEF Daily e-newsletter. It includes a lot of great information. Amanda Nolz is an inspiring young woman that is one of few young people returning to the farm doing her best to feed the people of the world. She is not simply ‘one nut case with a blog’. I am challenging all of your readers to follow a farmer/rancher on twitter or their blog, and find out the real story about how your food is produced (animal or vegetable). Farmers and ranchers are NOT pro animal cruelty. There is 2 sides to every coin!

  14. Amy Says:

Are you people serious?? Do you not realize that all the “veggies” you eat also come from these same farmers & ranchers??!! These are the people who feed all the world!! I can guarentee if any of you spent a winter at one of these places, where rancers stay up all night & day, out in freezing blizzards, bringing in new born calves to put them in the bath tub & kwarm them up, you would understand the “compassion” these people have for these animals!! Im sure not a one of you would even step foot out in these conditions & temperatures to take such great care of these animals!! Who’s the real nut cases??

  15. klj Says:

oh and Mack, you think a magazine that actually has a PURPOSE is “one nut case with a blog” but Vegetarian Star, Celebrity Vegetarian GOSSIP and news” is purposeful? yeah like that could even hold any sort of arguement! nice try tho!

  16. Tom Bosse Says:

Cattle ranchers are the best at no cruelty to animals. Anything
other than that would not even be advantageous financially.
    They also are the best at environmental stewardship of the trees;
grass; fauna; & water. They are the best stewards of all species of wildlife. If you haven’t personally checked this out, you need not comment about in anyway.

  17. Steve Says:

I am a small cattle rancher in Texas and have always treated my cattle in a humane way. I know that many of the folks that visit this site are going to say that I’m some heartless #!!?!!! (fill in your own expletive), that just wants to raise cattle and then kill them. But lets face it, people are going to continue to eat beef and to be a good rancher you have to take care of the animals and provide clean water, grass, feed, and vet care. To do otherwise just won’t work. I just don’t understand why vegetarians seem to demand that everyone become vegetarians. I would never demand that you eat meat. I wish folks could just get along.

  18. Laura Says:

To Natasha: country values has nothing to do with animal cruelty. I am a born and raise farm girl. While you spend your weekends shopping and socializing, I spend mine caring for our livestock. If it’s the middle of the night and an animals is sick I am there. I pride my self in taking top quality care of all our animals, and spending many hours of my day consumed with what is best for them, feed, clean bedding ect. I love our local humane society because they take care of neglected pets. HSUS, not so much.

  19. Jim Gerrish Says:

I’m glad to see so many others have already responded with comments about difference between the Humane Society that has been helping neglected and abused animals for over 100 years and the Humane Society of US. The HSUS is a completely unrelated political lobby group. Less than 2% of their annual funding is actually spent on animal care. They are mostly a bunch of six-figure lobbyists with a very specific political agenda. They knowingly use the confusion about the name similarity to bilk well-meaning people out of tens of millions of dollars every year to support their lobbying efforts and frivolous lawsuits. I’m not sure even Carrie Underwood had a clue who she was actually contributing to. As far as I’m concerned HSUS is one of the biggest scam and fraud groups in America. That is right after Congress.

  20. Bill Says:

To Natasha: you sound like some stupid liberal who thinks that they should be controlling all facets of our lives. I am a Beef rancher and I know first hand how animals are treated in cattle operations in the State of New Mexico and I can tell you we love our animals, treat them kindly, and love our Beef and will always promote Beef protein as a necessary part of all Human diets. You and HSUS make me sick!

  21. Bob Kinford Says:

To all of the livestock owners responding to this blog: You must first realize that the people criticizing you have no idea of where their food comes from, or what it takes to produce it. WE need to educate them as to how our livestock is handled, which is part of the reason I created http://www.naturalcattlehandling.com Anyone watching the videos on this site who cannot see that these cattle are moving without any stress or abuse probably cannot see themselves in the mirror.
