Although neither Simon Cowell nor Oprah Winfrey are vegetarians, both have experimented with it. Simon tried a vegetarian diet for 1 week and loved Linda McCartney’s meatless sausages. Oprah did a 21 day vegan cleanse with a little advice from author Kathy Freston. Sure would be nice if both of them went back to it. So between the two stars who publicly gave the veggie life a try, who would you rather do…

Elijah Wood Stealing Vegetarian Compliments From Tobey Maguire

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 29th, 2009 in Actors.

The Cinema Society & Vanity Fair Host A Screening Of Appaloosa

Elijah Wood is such a meat eating fraud.

The actor was printing photos at Cosco when a fan approached him and complimented him on sticking to his vegetarian diet for so long.

Elijah isn’t a vegetarian, and later he realized the fan had mistaken him for Tobey Maguire.

Elijah went along with it anyway.

Boo, boo, and triple boo!

Elijah is no Tobey Maguire. He is not an obsessive Real Food Daily patron. He does not hang at Prop 2 parties with his fellow veggie and animal rights peeps.

If Elijah wants his vegetarian compliments, he should earn it like every other meatless celeb does: Go veg!

Natalie Portman Keeps Vegan Identity Out Of Filmmaking

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 29th, 2009 in Actresses.

Natalie Portmans MakingOf Project - New York City
Natalie Portman is a strict vegan who won’t even wear clothing made from animals. But when it comes to her job in the film industry, she tries to keep personal life separate from business.

Portman recently appeared at an Apple store as part of the “Meet The Filmmaker” series.

Michael Croland, blogger for heeb’n’vegan, got the opportunity that every man on planet earth dreams about: to talk to Natalie.

Croland asked Portman about the film, Kosher Vegetarian, and how her religious and diet beliefs played a role in movie. Portman plays a Jewish woman in love with a Indian vegetarian.

“I try not to mix my beliefs too much with my filmmaking. … I went to see [Closer director] Mike Nichols speak the other night when he was at MoMA, and he was actually saying … the biggest job of the actor is to make a case for their character–that you have to defend your character no matter what. So if you’re playing a serial killer, you have to believe in that completely. … That’s your biggest job. … You’re obviously playing people with all different belief systems that are very different from your own.”

A commercial aired during a recent episode of Dancing With The Stars that made fun of PETA’s “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaigns.

Here are a few of the cold, hard facts and statements about the dance television industry you should know about:

“Every year, hundreds are dancers are hurt senselessly in order to make dance television.”

“How many more mic pads do I have to land on?”

“How many more camera men will I run into?”

“I’d rather go naked than see another dancer hurt.”

Alicia Silverstone Invents A Kinder Diet

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 29th, 2009 in Actresses, Authors.

2009 Heart Of Green AwardsAlicia Silverstone recently spoke with Ecorazzi.com about vegetarianism and her new vegan diet book, The Kind Diet, coming out in the fall.

Alicia teamed up with members of the Physician’s Committee For Responsible Medicine to incorporate solid medical advice into the plan.

You have a new book coming out called The Kind Diet. Tell me about what we can expect to see in it?

Yes, I’m so excited! It really feels like the most artistic expression of myself because it’s everything I’ve wanted to say for a very long time. Every time I worked on it my heart just opened up.

It’s called The Kind Diet and it’s about being kind to yourself and the planet at the same time. It really breaks down Eastern philosophy versus Western philosophy in terms of health. I bring in all the doctors so you can understand the medical and scientific approach and know it’s not just some ditzy girl talking about this stuff.

Paul McCartney Letter To Pamela Anderson: Preaching To The Choir

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 29th, 2009 in Actresses, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Pamela Anderson, Chrissie Hynde and Paul McCartney Maybe Paul McCartney is getting old.

The famous vegetarian Ex Beatle has written a letter to former Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson detailing all the benefits of a vegetarian diet.

But why on earth is he telling this to Pamela, who’s been a vegetarian for years?

“There are several reasons for a shift in a much lower input of meat in human diets if not complete vegetarianism…Quite apart from reasons of compassion for animals, a move towards vegetarian diets would also address the crisis in the global food market which leaves the poorest of the poor severely malnourished and ill-fed with food prices that have climbed to substantial heights in recent months largely because of diversion of food grains for conversion into animal proteins.”

Like duh. Pamela knows that dude.

The actor and brother of Julia Roberts spent some time in Tuscon, Arizona with his sister and a family friend where he was spotted at Mexican restaurant Senor Sammy’s helping out with the chicken cooking.

Sure, Eric may be a nice guy for helping and all, but couldn’t he have just helped with the bean burritos, instead?

“People don’t understand what it is to lighten their footprint, what steps to take. So if we give them the simple steps and we tell them exactly how much it affects the environment if they make certain changes—being a vegetarian, doing other things that make a dramatic difference in how much weight they carry in the world—people want to know that. When they realize that by changing simple things they can make a difference, it’s an empowerment vehicle.”

—-Russell Simmons, in an interview with grist.org on the little steps people can take to reduce their carbon footprint. Yes, being a vegetarian is a great way to lighten their footprint. Even if it means cheating every once in awhile.
