Hunters Can’t Stop Carrie Underwood At ACM Awards

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, April 6th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Female Singers.

44th Annual Academy Of Country Music Awards - Press Room

Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow can stop the postman and neither hunters nor Humane Society haters can stop Carrie Underwood.

The country music singer and American Idol winner scored big at the 44th Academy of Country Music Awards, winning both entertainer of the year and top female vocalist.

There was controversy with some of her fans over her decision to donate proceeds from this year’s American Idol elimination song she sings to the Humane Society of the United States. Some even urged others online to vote for anyone else but Carrie in the ACM awards.

Veg Man Salim Stoudamire Signs With Milwaukee Bucks

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, April 5th, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports.

Arizona Wildcats v Utah State Aggies

Veggie athletes are always proud trophies to display, as they refute one of the most common myths about what a vegetarian or vegan diet does to the body: makes it weak.

NBA player Salim Stoudamire has just signed a multi-year contract with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Stoudamire became vegan a couple of year ago. Apparently, he was a little chicken about doing so at first, but decided it was finally time to come out.

“I’ve always wanted to be one because of health, but I never wanted to go eat by myself or have people talk about me,” Stoudamire told myespn.go.com. “But I finally reached a point where I just didn’t care what other people thought, and I didn’t have a problem with eating alone.”

Besides, animals have mommas too.

“I don’t think you should eat something that had a mother. I don’t think that’s right.”

Well said.

Stoudamire played for the University of Arizona, where he led the team to the elite eight in 2005. While playing for the Atlanta Hawks, he averaged 8.0 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 157 games.

Premiere Of Miramax Films Adventureland - Arrivals

“Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, I think we can all agree that unspeakable suffering has occurred at the hands (flippers) of these sinister white snow devils. Most recently – in fact just now – they’ve been coined, ‘the white-fanged dispensers of death.’ Little is known of their feeding habits, although it’s widely speculated among seal clubbing spokespeople that human toddler brains are the preferred source of nutrition. And cod. As a counter measure, once a year Canadian hunters will selflessly enter an arena of unbridled peril. Broader dangers of the seal hunt include: accidentally clubbing one’s own shin, chapped lips, having to get up early, thirstiness, and the all too common: red snowball fight.”

—-Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds, in a sarcastic piece he wrote in the Huffington Post on the Canadian Seal Hunt. Kudos to Ryan for shedding light on this situation. Although there’s nothing humorous about the seal hunt, at least Ryan’s post will spark attention and hopefully, incite others to take action.

Carrie Underwood Gets Clean With Frais Hand Sanitizer

When on the road or anytime between hand washing, it’s nice to have waterless sanitizer on hand.

But most brands of sanitizer contain unhealthy added ingredients that aren’t good for people or the environment. Not to mention made by companies that may have tested the product on animals.

Frais Luxury products has all natural, vegan hand sanitizers that are free of everything a veg who’s concerned about hygiene could ask for: parabens, propylene glycol, and other unnatural chemicals. And absolutely no animal testing. Plus, Frais is PETA certified as a cruelty-free vegan cosmetic company.

Reportedly, celebs like Carrie Underwood, Kelly Ripa, America Ferrera, and Britney Spears have all scrubbed their hands clean with Frais’ products and liked the results.

Using sugarcane alcohol as the main ingredient, Frais then adds all the smelly stuff like tangerine and ginger that will keep you sniffing yourself minutes after you apply.

Just try to avoid doing this for too long in public.

Ginnifer Goodwin Gets Vegan Taco Fix At Vegan Glory

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, April 4th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

The Metropolitan Operas 125th Anniversary Gala

When we first heard about Ginnifer Goodwin picking up a take out order at Vegan Glory, we had no idea what was in the bag. Now, we’re getting some hints.

When asked by Blackbookmag.com where she liked to hang while in L.A., Goodwin replied:

“Oh, I’ll give you LA. My favorite restaurant is this little spot called Vegan Glory, in a strip mall on Beverly. They have the most phenomenal tacos. Are you a vegan? I am, and that’s where I get my taco fix. I recommend the faux beef tacos—absolutely!”

Okay, okay, we get it Ginnifer. You gotta have your vegan tacos or the set of Big Love gets really tense and ugly.

Wonder if she ever runs into Heather Mills and her singing child there?

Celebrity Fit Club’s Dr. Ian Smith Has 4 Day Diet For Vegetarians

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, April 4th, 2009 in Authors, Food & Drink, Reality TV.

2007 BET Awards - Arrivals

A big myth about vegetarians and vegans is that they always stay skinny and never have a need for weight loss.

While following a veg diet is more likely to result in a healthier body mass, veg folks can load up on too many vegan cookies, pour a whole bottle of olive oil to saute the vegetables, and stuff their faces with high, empty caloric vegetarian food too.

Then suddenly, their organic cotton pants start to burst.

Dr. Ian Smith, diet expert on VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club, was recently online to answer questions about healthy eating, exercise, and weight loss. His 4 Day Diet plan explained in his book, 4 Day Diet, can be adapted for many people, including vegetarians, as he explained.

What is the best diet for vegetarians? Since all the food we consume has so much of carb and sugar, how can we substitute protein with all the veggies and fruits? What are the options we have for following Atkins or South Beach? Thanks.

Dr. Ian Smith: On my diet, The 4 Day Diet, vegetarians are having great success, because they can make the substitutions they need to make. The program is very flexible for all types of eating styles whether you’re a vegetarian, vegan, diabetic, etc. If you want non-animal protein, you can load up on legumes and beans and things like chickpeas and lentils. If you eat eggs, egg whites are full of protein also.

Heather Mills Spotted At Vegan Glory With Singing Daughter

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, April 4th, 2009 in Business, Children, Food & Drink, Models, Restaurants.

Genesis Awards 2009

Here at Veg Star, we go giggity, giggity, goo over celebrity sightings in veg restaurants.

The latest sighting comes from the Starwatch section of nbclosangeles.com.

Heather Mills was spied having a meal at L.A.’s Vegan Glory with daughter Beatrice and a “male friend” who we’ll assume is Jamie Walker.

Hmm…Does this mean Heather has talked the meat loving Jamie into going veg?

“They seemed to be in good spirits,” the source said. “Beatrice was singing all throughout the meal.”

Vegan Glory food sounds like a supper to sing for!
