Only 900 animals die every year? 4-5 million cats and dogs are euthanized because we treat them like products. 6 billion chickens die in slaughter houses.

I'm against abortion, but the above poster's logic is flawed. He or she says there's a "good reason" to hunt. Well, many people think there's a "good reason" to abort fetuses.

People like Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar want to frame a debate in their own way, so that the other side has no say in the matter. Hasselbeck was making a good point. For the other two to say abortion and the wolves are "two different issues" is absurd. Hasselbeck's point is that, if it is wrong to kill animals even when we have a good reason (such as population control), why is it right to allow the killing of unborn babies? The political left cannot answer this question, to their response is that it should not be asked at all, because it's a different issue. It's not a different issue; it's an extension of the exact same issue.

Calling abortion a "complicated" issue seaparate from animal rights is ridiculous. That is just convenient to avoid the heart of the matter. I agree with Mrs. Hasselbeck. Many animal right activists do care only about animals and not people; I know this from personal experirence. Further, to say that abortion is "complicated" and animal rights is not is a misstatement. There are plenty of pro-hunting and pro-fur arguments out there that "complicate" PETAs agenda; however, these arguments are glossed over in the media and avoided by PETA altogether. Animal populations are known to expand out of control when some hunting and trapping is not allowed. This increases the prevalence of disease and starvation. The anti-fur movement has diminished trapping to the extent that, in some cases, the government must hire hunters to go out and shoot coyotes and other animals to help reduce the population. So, instead of using animals to make fur coats and help provide incomes for trappers and furriers as well as retailers, we're using taxpayer money to pay hunters to shoot animals and then let their carcas rot. This only touches the tip of the iceberg; there are plenty of other points to be made which stick a wrench in PETAs arguments. How is that for "complication"?

Abortion is complicated separate issue than animal rights.
What is undeniable is that animals are suffering and dying needlessly and cruelly. Most people are aware of human rights issues, but most people are ignorant of how animal rights issues and how they are treated on farms, factories, labs, etc. Humans can speak for and defend themselves. Animals can't.

I do think that animal rights activists would have a better rep in the media if there was equal outcry about human rights issues.
I am a prolife vegan(an unfortunate minority) and it pains me that those on the more conservative side of things don't express the same compassion and concern for animals as they do towards unborn humans. There needs to be more consistent compassion towards all living creatures, human and non-human.

Thanks for posting this story.
