If you are in your twenties or younger and you went vegetarian in your teens, you probably existed a great deal on Amy’s Kitchen products after school. From burritos to mac and cheese to tofu pot pies, you can’t go wrong with a healthy product that’s quick to fix, inexpensive, and meat-free.

If you’re still into Amy’s congrats, you’re in good company. Victoria DeSantis, who is on the Western Sales Team with Amy’s Kitchen was watching MTV Cribs one day when she saw Russell Simmons open up his crib to show the cameras his freezer was full of their products.

Talk about a free advertisement.

Russell’s not the only one diggin’ Amy’s at his crib. Their food keeps Death Cab For Cutie from becoming grumpy on tour and Moby’s got some in his fridge as well.

Los Angeles Confidential Magazine's Pre-Emmy Party

Not long ago, NBA basketball legend John Salley made an appearance on Rachael Ray, who is currently our favorite Food Network chef at the moment. Check out the archives to find out why.

Salley became a vegetarian to reduce his cholesterol back in 1991. This week he’ll be cooking a vegetarian Thanksgiving feast to whoever is lucky enough to get invited to his home.

“I cook for Thanksgiving — they don’t even know that they’re not eating meat,” he said as he went on to explain a dish that involved pureeing squash and cauliflower.

The Veg Star has already brought you the news of how he and other African-American celebrities were trying to get the word out to encourage African-Americans to go veg.

Read more about how the episode went and don’t forget to grab the recipe.

Petas Fashion Week Bash At Stella McCartney

“I think we need more vegan junk food. Who has time when you’re out in the world to get something quick? Why can’t we have a dollar menu? So many people don’t respond to animal rights as a whole because they know they will have to change their lifestyle so drastically. Why not make it easier for them?”

“You can’t preach with veganism. You need to be funny and lively.” A lot of people treat veganism as a my-way-or-the-highway type thing, but it’s good to keep a sense of humor. You can do this while still moving toward a more compassionate world.”

—-Singer and songwriter Nellie McKay, in an interview with Vegetarian Journal. Earlier, we told you how she calls herself a Junkatarian and has an addiction to the french fries. Her idea of vegan fun is potato chips, beer, and spaghetti. Now she’s aiming for the Cheetos.

Vegetarian Vampire Christian Serratos Wears Glasses On And Off Screen

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, November 24th, 2008 in Actresses, Videos.

Premiere Of Summit Entertainment's

Vegetarian Vampires have taken over! The film, Twilight, based on the novel series by Stephenie Meyer, took a bite of $70.5 million at the box office during it’s opening weekend.

It features a group of vampires, known as the “vegetarian vampires,” because they don’t eat humans. However, they still eat animals in the forest, so sounds like they have some identity issues.

One of the vegetarian, but not really vampires, Angela Weber, played by Christian Serratos spoke to Peta2.org about her thoughts on dissection, fur, and animal testing in cosmetics. Since Serratos wears glasses, the film’s producers decided to write this into her character.

After watching the video, don’t forget to enter to win the entire Twilight book series as well as a pair of tickets to watch the vegetarian vampires at a theatre near you.

Leona Lewis Wants Affordable Vegan Fashion

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, November 24th, 2008 in Fashion, Female Musicians, Female Singers.

2008 American Music Awards - Show

Clothing is expensive enough. When you throw in designer labels and aim to be cruelty-free the price jumps so much, it makes you want to take a sewing class and make your own.

Leona Lewis wants to change that and expressed her desire to do so to Sunday Express’ S.

“I love Stella McCartney – but her clothes are very expensive,” Lewis said of the eco-friendly fashion designer. “I think people need a more affordable option.”

“I’m trying to find the right companies to work with, sourcing different things and talking to creative teams.”

“I would love to promote an affordable line of non-leather bags and shoes.”

Tim McIlrath Of Rise Against Talks Burger King’s Progress

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, November 24th, 2008 in Bands, Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

KROQ Weenie Roast Y Fiesta 2008

The all veg band Rise Against likes to have a little fun while searching for food on tour, like using scooters to get them to eateries of their choice.

Life may have gotten easier for them to find veg food on the road, especially in comparison to rockers before their time, like Tom Schultz and Boston.

Lots of mainstream grocery stores have little “island” sections of food for vegans and vegetarians now and it’s not uncommon to find a Gardenburger patty at many restaurants. Even fast food chains are complying.

Band member Joe Principe has spoken about how he thinks the vegan chicken patty at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Canada is “amazing.” Now Tim McIlrath is expressing his astonishment about another fast food establishment, Burger King.

“If you would have told me when I was 17 years old that Burger King was going to have a veggie burger, I would have told you that you were crazy,” McIlrath said in an interview.

Luckily, we’re not crazy (at least according to the test that we know lots of restaurants carry veg options) and there’s a good chance if you’re out and about you won’t go hungry thanks to veg options at places like Subway. Is there a fast food or mainstream restaurant where you can find awesome meatless (and maybe even dairyless) grub?
