Those who dream big will often have naysayers. Even if you’re an accomplished multi-album producing rock star. Such was the case with Chrissie Hynde when she threw up the idea of a vegan restaurant in the heart of the midwest.

“There wasn’t one vegetarian restaurant in Akron, so I said, ‘I’ll do it,’ and it’s just been a phenomenon,” she said.

“Everybody told me, ‘Don’t do it, it will not work. But I had to do it anyway, because I had to have somewhere I could eat.”

Although she lives in the UK, she frequently stops by Ohio to check up on her chefs, visit family, and of course, get her hands involved with serving customers. At her restaurant, The Vegiterranean’s opening, she even personally served veggie burgers to police officers.

Yeah Chrissie! That sure beats the stereotyped cop fare of donuts and 7-Eleven snack food.

Daryl Hannah Only Puts The Gift Horse On Her Feet

The EMA & E! Golden Green Party - Arrivals

The media loves to hunt for those that appear to be hypocrites. Deceiver.com has made an entire website out of this. So when a known vegetarian actress, supporter of bio-fuel, and all around green activist gal Daryl Hannah was spotted wearing a pair of suede shoes, of course the reporter had to ask.

“They were my mum’s,” she said. “I only wear leather when it’s a gift.”

There. All the (pending) rumors can be squashed.

Shamita Singha Likes It Spicy And Meatless

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 in Bollywood, Models, TV Hosts.

Miss India Earth 2001, Zoom VJ, and model Shamita Singha is causing quite a fire with her new ad for PETA. She’s lying in a bed of red chili peppers wearing nothing but…well, red chili peppers.

“I turned vegetarian when I was quite young because I realised that if I really love animals, then I can’t eat them,” she said in an interview with Petadishoom.

Not only does this model not eat animals, she doesn’t use products that are tested on them either.

Funny, we always thought habanera was one of the hottest peppers, until now. This one is definitely off the Scoville Scale.

Chrissie Hynde Wants Las Vegan In Las Vegas

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers.

Chrissie Hynde

Chrissie Hynde is burning the internet URLs lately (a nerd way to describe rising internet popularity) because she’s about to release a new album, Break Up The Concrete, next week.

It would be a disservice to say she doesn’t make fire at any other time though, given her long list of activism and outspokenness on her vegan lifestyle. She sat down to speak with PETA about her experiences with the animal rights movement and plans to expand her vegan restaurant, The Vegiterranean in places like Las Vegas and the new Freedom Tower where the old World Trade Center stood.

And did you know that her and Ingrid Newkirk, President and Co-Founder of PETA, have “chilled” and watched movies together at Hynde’s home in the UK?

“I love Ingrid and always urge her to take a break once in a while; I even made her come over to my house in London to chill out and watch a movie,” Hynde said.

“If a small Midwestern town can have a line out the door at a vegan restaurant, it can work anywhere. Times are definitely changing all over. I’d like to expand to Las Vegas so tourists from all over the world can see how great vegan food can be, and of course in LA I’ve read that Freedom Tower in New York City, the new development where the World Trade Centre once stood, is looking for a notable restaurateur. I’d like to throw my hat into the ring.”

Anne Hathaway’s A Quitter-Of Meat And Fish, That Is

The Cinema Society Hosts An After Party For

Anne Hathaway is probably one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood and adored by both men and women. And let’s face it; she has that wholesome appearance to her-how much deviance could a diary writing Princess get into?

She’s been known for awhile as one of those flexitarians-people who have on again, off again relationships with eating meat. After the breakup of her convicted charity frauding ex-boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri, she’s back on again with vegetarianism.

On a recent “David Letterman Show”, she said she’s quit smoking and eating meat and fish.

‘When I was quitting smoking I thought ‘Ok this is probably a good time to make some changes’, so I quit drinking and I quit meat and fish – and fun,'” she said.

She also mentioned that she is “vaguely vegan.”

We’re not sure how “vague” her veganess is, but maybe she’s the new female Tobey Maguire.

Weird Al Vegetarian: Yankovic Sings “Chicken Pot Pie”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Sony/BMG Grammy Party - Arrivals

Weird Al Yankovic is a vegetarian. No, really. He definitely makes tofu very white and nerdy.

The performer who is known for his parodies was once asked by Paul McCartney when he was going to make fun of him. That’s right. McCartney wondered when one of his songs would be remade by Yankovic.

A little later, Yankovic, a vegetarian, asked Paul for permission to use the song, “Live and Let Die,” for a song called, “Chicken Pot Pie.” Paul said no, because it dealt with eating meat, but Yankovic used it anyway because apparently he didn’t need Paul’s permission after all, he was just trying to be nice.

When we were young, Bernie’s Deli was down the block
(Ooh ooh ooh ooh)
He made a great liver pate
(You know he did, you know he did, you know he did)
But if there’s one thing in this world that I like better
Than a corned beef on rye

It’s Chicken Pot Pie
Chicken Pot Pie

[chorus of chicken-cluck imitations]

“Chicken Pot Pie,” by the strange man who turned vegan after a fan gave him the book, “Diet For A New America,” by John Robbins.
