Will Oprah Winfrey Get Naked?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 in Actresses, TV Hosts.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's 50th Anniversary Opening Night

Some things are just too creepy. In an interview almost a year ago, Alicia Silverstone said she wanted to see Oprah naked…

But that’s not the creepy part, though, ha, ha. You see, Alicia was talking about her passion for vegetarianism and how she wanted to see such a famous and powerful person like Oprah go vegetarian because of the sheer influence the talk show diva has.

“I would love to see Oprah naked — that’s a goal for me,” she said. “It would be great if she became a vegetarian; she is a very powerful woman and would really get the message across.” Silverstone was referring to Oprah taking a stance on vegetarianism by posing nude for PETA, like herself and many other celebrities have done.

In case, you didn’t know, Oprah went vegan. But only for 21 days as part of a detox process. But she reported to have enjoyed both the experience and the food.

Now for the creepy part. How could Alicia Silverstone be so psychic? Oprah went vegan months after Silverstone made her statement. Are we in store for a nude Oprah soon?

It would be great if she returned to at least some form of vegetarianism again, or even vowed to reduce meat and made it one of her Oprah campaigns, along with designer lip gloss, book clubs, and dozens of other trends she starts and somehow makes millions of women (and men) follow. Is Oprah the next nude pin up for PETA posters? We’ll be on the lookout for more Alicia Silverstone predictions, as this girl seems to be getting all too good at them.

Tom Scholz And Boston Fuel Vegetarian Charities

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 in Bands, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Talk about shockers! Who would have guessed that Tom Scholz and his Boston band buddies were vegetarians? It really should come as no surprise though, as rockers like Rikki Rockett of Poison and Joan Jett are so public about their diet decisions. But Boston is one that has eluded us–until now.

Scholz got into vegness in the 70s after being introduced by former member Brand Delp, then Gary Pihl didn’t want to be left out either. Scholz has a charity foundation set up so he can get rid of all his millions he’s earned from awesome hits like  “More Than A Feeling,” and “Amanda.” Many of those charitable organizations include anti-cruelty and vegetarian ones.

“Primarily it was set up as a vehicle for me to give my money away,” said Scholz. “I don’t solicit donations for it. It has received some donations from some people who found out about it. Brad contributed a lot to it. The charitable foundation basically funds other charities that Brad and I were trying to support. They are mostly anti-cruelty and anti-suffering programs and vegetarian organizations trying to enlighten the public about vegetarian lifestyles and why they should consider it. Brad, Gary and I are longtime vegetarian. I think that is one of the things that sort of kept us in tune over the years.”

“Brad and I were very different people but that is one of the things that we had in common. I followed Brad after he got into it in the Seventies. Gary got into it in the Eighties after he met me. I think it was one of the sort of binding things that held us together.”

Rock on!

Keenen Ivory Wayans made us laugh in movies like White Chicks and the T.V. series In Living Color. Some of his favorite vegetarian meals include hearty vegetable soup, pasta primavera, and his mom’s red beans and rice. You gotta love a man who lists his mom’s cooking as the best, right? Watch this video to hear him give mom’s dish the kudos and promote the Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine, an organization of doctors practicing what they preach-eating vegan and advocating it for the rest of us.

Rogan For Target Debuts At Barneys New York

As an adolescent, how did you rebel? Break curfew? Dress trampy and date the bad boy? How about eat meat behind mom and dad’s back? Aisha Tyler of Fox’s 24 and Ross’ girlfriend, Charlie, in Friends,  was a very, very bad girl. In an interview with Britain’s Night and Day magazine:

“I love food. I’m not someone who has ever been able to survive on lettuce leaves. My parents were vegetarians and I went to school with sandwiches with tofu and greens. None of the other kids wanted to trade their lunches with me. It forced me to be funny and make friends. I had to assimilate with the other youngsters even though I felt like an outsider. When other kids were rebelling by smoking and drinking, I was going out and sneaking meat on the side. It sounds crazy but my idea of rebellion was to buy a turkey dinner and eat it without mum and dad knowing.”

Bad Aisha. Bad, bad, bad. That’s an act punishable of at least a year’s worth of grounding. And who said anything about surviving on lettuce leaves? Didn’t Tyler’s parents know about Morningstar Farms?

Brooke Shields: Vegetarian Gone Bad?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 in Actresses, Models, Not So Vegetarian.

The NBC Universal Experience

Brooke Shields is gracing the cover of Shape Magazine for October. Supposedly, she has 5 tips for staying healthy, fit, and happy. However, she made a comment that although she used to be a vegetarian, she eats meat now and it’s what her body thinks is right.

“I was a vegetarian for 15 years until I got pregnant. I just needed to eat meat. I believe you really have to listen to your body.”

We wonder what our favorite vegetarian models like Christie Brinkley would think of that comment. Better yet, we wonder what you guys think of that comment. Do you believe her body was telling her to eat meat? Or just eat better? What do you think about people who think switching back to meat will bring them better health?
